Showed our strength!!!!
zsscreen21 September 2008
I know it's hard to think of going to another Katrina theme film, but this one is a must see. I enjoyed it because it showed our strength. All of us in the New Orleans area had to make quick hard decisions. I applaud the Coaches of East St John for being a strong role models for all these students. That tragic time in our lives, we needed good leaders to take us under their wings. Coach Doe was born to do that. He is not just a coach on the field, but a life coach too. I hope parents bring their children to see this movie. We all had to deal with Katrina in different ways and this is just another part of that huge story. So, it you ready to see another Katrina story, go see this one. Ziggy :)

High School kids from destroyed communities learn to live under one roof despite their many differences
chizwick_94 February 2013
Unreal. The best sports documentary I've ever seen and also the best on Katrina. Really compelling and well told. Some of the footage is poor quality which is the only reason i don't give it a ten. Not a huge fan of documentaries involving sports, but this transcends sports and takes you into the human struggle of life after Katrina. Johnny and Stanley steal the show with there amazing relationship. All of the characters are fully realized and explored. The Super Fans are hilarious. Coach Doe, wow! Also very interesting how they lived through Hurricane Rita right after. People often forget what all these people had to endure. It's nice that a film like this is hear to remind us. An important historical film that should be seen by all high school kids.

Hurricane Season: Walking on Dead Fish
franklinmartin2222 March 2011
I spent a year in tiny LaPlace, LA, shortly after Katrina struck. Laplace is located ten miles from New Orleans and was the first town that hurricane victims evacuated to.

The town was badly damaged by the hurricane, but even worse by the sudden influx of over 20,000 people. The school system was over run with 1500 new students in one week. The high school, East St. John, adopted 500 of them and became the center of the town's recovery with its football team providing the community something to rally around.

The team, comprised of kids from fifteen different high schools, was forced to put aside their former rivalries and band together as one. The result was a rocky, but beautiful story, the kind only a hurricane as devastating as Katrina could produce.

Watch the film and I promise that you will fall in love with these kids, especially Johnny and Stanley, two polar opposites in every way that somehow learn to co-exist for the good of the team and school.

And If you don't, I'll refund your money.

Sincerely,

Franklin Martin - Writer/Producer/Director of "Hurricane Season: Walking on Dead Fish

Fantastic Movie about Teamwork and Resilience in the eye of the storm!
I loved this movie! It was a Blind Side meets Rudy kind of movie...Definitely two thumbs up! I lived in Miami for many years and lived through many Hurricanes, so this movie definitely resounded with me on many levels. The movie made you look at teamwork through a different perspective...teams of people that were once adversaries, then all of a sudden, through a horrific natural disaster were forced to work together and come together as one unified Winning team. It was wonderful to watch Watch the football players blossom from Boys to Men. This documentary is an inspirational journey of courage, strength, perseverance, and family all being tested through faith! This movie goes way beyond sports, football or a sports documentary. This movie will pull on every emotion in the eye of the storm, from sorrow to cheers; it's funny, touching and inspirational. A true must see for everyone!
