- Paulina offers the girls advice on how to successfully model with a variety of items, including fish and toilet paper.
- Samantha is very excited to have photo of the week. She is determined to go all the way. On the other hand, Marjorie is bummed that she was in the bottom two, even though she expected it after her Go-See disaster.
"Everything counts now. You can't have an off day." She is going to try and calm down her nerves, but is having a hard time finding a balance. Analeigh encourages her to just think of it as acting.
Tyra Mail: A model who knows how to sell makes the most sense.
The girls head out and meet Paulina who is in surrounded by tables full of various products including a heap of herring, several rolls of toilet paper and a cellphone. She explains to the girls that a model's primary task is to sell, and quite often, it must be done without words. And so today, Paulina will teach them how to sell without words, using their senses.
The girls take turns emoting over each product. Paulina was impressed by McKey's portrayal of the senses and felt each pose was very model-like. For Marjorie, Paulina felt she was very believable because her emotions were so accessible. She also though Analeigh was a natural actress, but she kept forgetting about the "imaginary camera", and that Samantha was a clown, and was good at showing the happy expressions.
Tyra Mail: You three better be on the Mark. Love, Tyra.
The girls head back to the house. McKey and Samantha talk about how they both really want to win. Sam thinks all four girls have the the potential to be America's Next Top Model, and so she's determined to stay focused. "This is all where it counts."
The girls head off to the challenge and meet up with Paulina again at Amsterdam Worldwide, one of top boutique ad agencies in Amsterdam. She introduces them to Richard Gorodecky, the creative director for the firm. He tells the girls they will be auditioning for a 30-second commercial for a sport shoe. For the concept, they will be playing a girl who is jogging down the street, and a taxi pulls up beside them. Inside the taxi is a hot guy. They make eye contact and flirt and then finally, he stops and gets out of the cab. Then, the girl plants a kiss on him, then jumps into the taxi and takes off. But there are no lines, it's all done with expressions.
And then Paulina reveals a surprise. Supermodel Mark Vanderloo, known for his Versace and Calvin Klein ads, will be playing opposite the girls. They are all excited and nervous about getting to kiss this hottie. The winner of the challenge will receive a $10,000 shopping spree with G-Star, one of the premier denim companies.
Instead of filming outside, the girls will be running on the treadmill and Mark will move back and forth as if he's in a taxi. Sam is up first and is good but a bit over the top. She thought it was a lot of fun.
Analeigh is next. She was very sweet and convincing. She said, "His lips were very soft and voluptuous. I enjoyed it... rather a lot."
When she goes back to the room, she tells the girls he's a good kisser. Marjorie checks her breath.
McKey feels pressure to do well. She doesn't want to be in the bottom two until she's in the final two. She does pretty good but doesn't get much of a reaction from the judges.
Marjorie is up last. Her new approach is to just have fun with everything rather than being neurotic. She plays the part with her nervous cute self and then suddenly plants on on him. Paulina felt her performance was refreshing, and Rick commented it was not what he was expecting, which is always nice. When Marjorie comes back to the room, Samantha is amazed that Marjorie is so cool and collected. Marj tells her that because she's already been in the bottom two, she can just enjoy the moment.
Time for the critique. Paulina tells Sam she was adorable, but her actions seemed calculated. Analeigh was cute and sweet, and is a very good actor. With McKey, they liked her flirtation but not the final kiss. And for Marjorie, although she seemed a bit awkward, her performance was the most honest. The winner is Marjorie! She picks Analeigh to share her prize.
Tyra Mail. Tomorrow you will be going dutch but you'll have to give 100 percent. Love, Tyra.
Later that night, Marjorie invites the boys over who drove them around on the go-see challenge. Apparently she's been wanting to call them all week and asks them to "please bring wine, I need pinot noir." The boys come over and the fun begins. None of the other girls drink, but that doesn't stop Marjorie from drinking with the fellas. She confesses, "I'm having fun, I'm letting loose. Wine is my friend."
At first the night is pretty innocent and they play charades and cards. Then, as the night progresses, things get a little "messy." McKey starts wrestling with one of the guys, Samantha is playing cards and doing magic tricks, and Marjorie is dared to make out with one of the guys for ten seconds. The kiss goes on and on, and then the next thing you know, Marjorie is sitting in the bathtub (fully clothed) with the kissing bandit. Analeigh becomes mama hen and takes control. She tells the guys it's time to go home. Marj admits she felt safe because she knew the other girls would take care of her.
The girls head out to the photo shoot and arrive in the middle of the Dutch countryside. In the background, there's a huge old barn and a windwill. Jay tells the girls they'll be posing in front of the windwill with extreme hair and makeup. Their challenge will be to shine through. Barrie Hullegie is the photographer.
Analeigh is up first and brings lots of diverse poses, using the rake as a prop. Jay loves it. Toward the end, she mixes it up by jumping, reminiscent of Saleisha. Jay coos with approval.
Marjorie is next and uses her awkward signature poses. Jay thinks she looks beautiful but she's uninspiring. After the shoot, he reminds her she's not only being judged by her photo, but also how she presents herself at judging. He encourages her to let her confidence shine through.
Samantha is clowning around while getting her make-up, but once on set she falls flat. Jay asks her why she's having such problems and she admits the wooden clogs she's wearing are very painful. The photographer warns her it's showing on her face. With seven frames left, she sucks it and up and pulls out a shot. After the shoot, she's upset that she didn't perform well. Sutan dries her tears.
McKey is up last. They give her large heavy chain to work with and have her up next to the windwill. She takes full advantage of her props, swinging the chain around, and hanging from the windwill. Jay loves the versatility she brings to the set.
Time for panel. Ann Shoket as the guest judge.
McKey is up first. They love outfit and her photo. Tyra thinks that she's finally found her signature: strength with femininity.
Up next is Marjorie. Ms. Jay thinks it's editorial 100 percent. Nigel thinks she looks a bit awkward but it works. Tyra admits that she wasn't impressed with her film, and felt that her shoot this week seemed a bit introverted. Marjorie remains calm through her critique and this takes everyone by surprise. Nigel asks her if she's sad, and she says, she's being attentive. Tyra tells her she knows she's fighting her nerves, but now she is coming off as flat. The girl just can't win!
Sam is next and right away Tyra blasts her outfit. Again. She says she was almost "modelicious" until she put on her cardigan, so she makes her take it off. The photo is much better. Tyra loves her downturned lip but was not impressed by the rest of her films.
Last up, Analeigh with one of the "jumping" shots. It turned out great and the judges rave about her picture. Nigel comments that it looks like the she was being carried away by the windwill. Ann thinks she's so sweet in person, but was amazed by her fierce transformation.
Analeigh is up first. Then McKey. Sam and Marjorie are the final two.
Marjorie takes exquisite photos, very high fashion and editorial, but this week her film was flat. What the judges see a girl that doesn't understand balance. One minute she's a jittering mess and the next, almost boring. They like the light that's within her, but without the nerves. And by trying to please the judges, she lost her essence that got her there.
Samantha, the judges are frustrated that for some reason she doesn't get it. They don't understand how after all this time, she still doesn't know how to look like a model, stand like a model. Although her shot was great, her film was a mess, and there's no excuse this late in the competition.
So who stays? Samantha.
Tyra tells Marjorie that she's adorable and if can keep her nerves in check, she'll be able to book jobs.
Marjorie says goodbye to the girls, and gives a long, sad farewell hug to her buddy Analeigh.
As Marj packs her bags to leave, she reflects, "I worked really hard so I'm disappointed. Funny thing is I'm a Libra, so you'd think I'd be able to find a balance. I'm going to miss this world and the beautiful house. And I'm going to miss Analeigh. I'm tremendously grateful of what I've been able to experience up to this point."
