When I started watching this anime series on Funimation's YouTube channel I didn't know anything about it apart from the short description there. The story follows Takumi; a teenaged boy who lives alone in what appears to be a shipping container surrounded by his anime merchandise; he even has conversations with an imaginary girl who is the star of his favourite anime. On the occasions he turns up for school he has no interest in the real girls there; in fact he appears to be rather scared of them. His life changes when he starts getting messages from somebody known as 'The Shogun' about the 'New Gen Murders', one includes a picture of a murder scene a murder he stumbles on after seeing the picture! At the scene he sees a pink haired girl committing the crime; a girl he meets again later at school and claims to have known him for some time clearly something very strange is happening! As the story progresses he meets more girls; each of them capable of pulling strange swords out of thin air. We later learn that these girls are 'Gigalomaniacs' and they claim Takumi is too although he has no idea how to produce such a sword. They learn that somebody is projecting delusions onto the local population using a device called Noah II; they must stop him before he can use it to cause massive damage.
This wasn't a bad series although you have to pay attention if you are to avoid getting confused at times; one can never tell if one is seeing reality or a delusion or if the boundary between the two has broken down completely. Takumi is a fairly unsympathetic protagonist as he spends much of his time whining about what is going on around him and the secondary characters look and sound like anime characters we have seen many times before as did the villain. On the plus side despite the series featuring one main male character surrounded by a harem of girls it doesn't descend into a clichéd fan-service show. I wouldn't recommend paying for this show but while it can be watched legally on line one might as well check it out.
