Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that, instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, you use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

Julien sings the racy Nelly song "Hot in Here," changing the line "So take off all your clothes" to "So take off all your fur."

Violence & Gore

A bear beats up a police officer, but we see no injury.

A wall in a woman's office is entirely covered with mounted animal heads of all kinds and a shadowy display of large-toothed leg-hold traps.

While on a train, a knife throwing circus tiger twirls a dagger and in several scenes throws daggers, spears and cleavers at animals, creating outlines around them.

A pack of small circus dogs argue and threaten bodily harm twice with knives and a broken wine bottle but no one is harmed.

A police officer shoots several rounds from his handgun into the ceiling of a jail cell, penguins knock out the officer along with several other officers, and the camera cuts to the inside of packing crates where we see the officers tied, gagged and duct-taped; we then see the outside of the crates marked "Madagascar" with a large freighter ship transporting them, as the officers scream.

Profanity

4 mild scatological terms, 2 uses of "damn".

When Dubois arrives at the casino in Monte Carlo and starts slapping the manager, at one point it looks like she says "You fucking fool!", although we can't hear it that good.

Two characters briefly smoke bananas like cigars.

In the opening scenes, Alex is having a bad dream in which he sees all of his friends as very elderly. It is shown in harsh black and white and very in-your-face 3D, and the way the characters look may be frightening to young children. It lasts less than two minutes.

The cop chase in Monte Carlo might be intense for some much younger viewers, but is mostly played for laughs.

In a scene, where King Julien, Maurice and Mort are in a dark scary train car with scratches on the walls, a pair of glowing red eyes approaches them, although it turns out to be a relatively friendly bear.

Toward the end of the film, Captain Dublois hides a gun with a lethal poisoned dart in a foam finger and points it at Alex, who is trapped in his enclosure in the zoo. She fires the gun, but Gia comes and saves Alex at the last second.
