Storyline

Joan Rivers did not do a stand-up routine, instead telling jokes during the interview. The prime topic was complaints about the Post Office. She also talked about her new venture writing a newspaper column. Adrienne Barbeau was making her first appearance on The Tonight Show. When Johnny asked her age (28) and commented he could be her father, she suggested he could be a lover as she likes older men. She described how she moved to New York City at age 19. Jobs included being a barmaid and "disco" dancer (i.e. go-go dancer) while she pursued acting. Her success in "Grease" let to her role in "Maude". She described herself during this period as "the only 19 year old virgin in New York." She also told the story of dating a man who claimed to be author Philip Roth, which impressed her until she looked at the photo on one of Roth's books and saw he was lying.
