Raze Review

29 December 2013 9:01 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

I’m as big an action movie fan as I am a horror nut, so these “fight to the death” type genre films are admittedly one of my guilty pleasures. Josh C. Waller’s Raze follows in the footsteps of so many films that show captured prisoners being forced into some type of savage competition, so I looked towards the choreographed fighting for an invigorating jolt of energy. I mean, c’mon guys, who doesn’t love a good chick fight, am I right?! Ugh, yeah, there’s nothing comparable to foxy boxing here, which I found out during the very first brawl. There’s a reason Zoe Bell is one of the most respected female stuntwoman in Hollywood, as she dispatches foes one by one – but without a seriously effective social commentary, the brutally unapologetic violence never becomes more than surface value depravity.

Oscar Too-Due List: Which never-nominated actors really deserve a nod?

23 December 2013 3:24 PM, PST | - PopWatch | See recent - PopWatch news »

Not every great actor wins an Academy Award. (Rest in peace, Peter O’Toole.*) In fact, simply getting nominated for an Oscar or two might be the truer measure of excellence. There have been plenty of actors with as many Oscar statues as Paul Newman — one! — but few can hold a candle to his nine nominations, which represent a lifetime of brilliance.

But before an actor can pile up multiple nominations like Newman or O’Toole or Al Pacino, he or she needs that first nod. Sounds simple enough. Last year, four actors heard their name called for the first time, »

* Joseph Gordon-levitt (The Dark Knight Rises, Inception) lends his voice to Jiro Horikoshi, who harbors strong ambitions to create his own beautiful airplane. A bubbling mix of wild excitement, extreme focus, individualism, pride, realism and idealism, Jiro also has a cool and brilliant mind and is recognized for his talent.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Set to Direct, Produce and Star in Sandman, David S. Goyer to Produce

18 December 2013 9:15 AM, PST | | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Making his feature directorial debut at Sundance this year with Don Jon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is looking to return behind the helm, now finalising a deal with Warner Bros. to produce Sandman.

The multi-hyphenate is looking to produce the adaptation alongside David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight Trilogy), who pitched his treatment for bringing Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed comic book series to the big screen, Deadline reports.

It’s thought that if a deal is struck, Gordon-Levitt will also be taking the eponymous lead, with an eye to direct the film as his sophomore feature.

Running from 1989 through to 1996 under Gaiman, the series is centred on Morpheus, the personification of dreams. After being held captive for seventy years, Morpheus escapes and seeks revenge, going on a quest for his lost objects of power, trying to rebuild his crumbling kingdom whilst adapting to the times.

The project has been in development at Warner Bros. for years, »

Joseph Gordon-Levitt to Take on Neil Gaiman's 'Sandman'

17 December 2013 3:10 AM, PST | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

It appears that Joseph Gordon-Levitt may hit the filmmaking trifecta: He's attached to produce -- and potentially star in and direct -- a film adaptation of Neil Gaiman's comic series "The Sandman."

Deadline reports that Gordon-Levitt is currently finalizing a deal with Warner Bros. to produce the project alongside "The Dark Knight"'s David S. Goyer. The deal allegedly stipulates that Gordon-Levitt also play the lead, the personification of dreams known as Morpheus, and he may also direct, marking his second feature after this year's "Don Jon."

"Sandman," a fantasy-horror series, has a cult-like following, and Jgl would no doubt be under an intense microscope if he took on the project. But since his stints in action and sci-fi/fantasy films like "The Dark Knight Rises," "Inception," and "Looper," he's gained some street cred, and his rising Hollywood popularity could bring an entirely new audience to the comics' story. »

Now Blunt is back for more time loop drama with Edge of Tomorrow, whose stunning trailer is viewable above. Blunt plays co-star to A-lister Tom Cruise in this sci-fi actioner from Bourne Identity director Doug Liman.
