The (new) doctor is in. The Mindy Project has cast Garret Dillahunt (Justified, Hand of God) in a major Season 4 recurring role, a return to comedy for the actor after he had taken on back-to-back dramatic roles following the conclusion of the Fox sitcom Raising Hope, which he costarred in with Martha Plimpton. Per Deadline, Dillahunt will play Jody, “a new doctor who replaces Mindy while she goes on maternity leave. Jody is a charming southern gentleman with extremely traditional values who thinks that Mindy is a tacky idiot.” It is not yet known in which episode the actor will make his Mindy Project debut. Dillahunt joins an impressive lineup of guest stars for The Mindy Project‘s upcoming fourth season, the show’s first ever on its new home, Hulu, after it was cancelled by Fox at the end of Season 3. 'Star Wars: Episode VIII' Needs Villain, Wants Benicio Del Toro

21 July 2015 2:00 PM, PDT | Movies.com | See recent Movies.com news »

Benicio Del Toro is in very early discussions to play a villainous role in Star Wars: Episode VIII, according to The Wrap. No other details were reported, and no official confirmation has been made. Rian Johnson was first reported as writer/director back in June 2014, and since then we have heard very little. That's not surprising since it's the followup to J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which itself has been wrapped in secrecy. Even though Johnson will be working within a well-defined cinematic universe, we're trusting that his distinctive sensibilities -- as evidenced in time-travel action picture Looper, for example -- will shine through, and that includes the role of the villain.   Del Toro would certainly be a great choice. His career...

21 July 2015 1:51 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

At this point we haven.t even arrived at the release date for Star Wars: The Force Awakens yet, but with Disney and Lucasfilm laying out an expanding slate of new films, it.s never too early to look to the future. Looper director Rian Johnson is set to take the helm on Star Wars: Episode VIII, which doesn.t hit theaters until May 2017, but just the other day they cast the film.s main villain, Benicio Del Toro. The Oscar-winning actor is in talks to play the primary antagonist, and while we don.t know who he is, we.ve got some ideas. This is, obviously, sheer conjecture. We don.t even know what happens in The Force Awakens, so trying to predict what is going to happen in the movie beyond that is a bit of a stretch, but looking to the Expanded Universe, there are some »

Actor in pole position for Rian Johnson’s film after starring as the Collector in hit space opera Guardians of the Galaxy for Disney offshoot Marvel

Oscar-winner Benicio del Toro has been offered the role of villain-in-chief for Star Wars: Episode VIII, the untitled second film in Disney’s new trilogy of films based on the iconic space saga, reports the Wrap.

Little is known about the storyline for the new instalment, so the nature of Del Toro’s role also remains nebulous. Episode VIII is being written and directed by Looper’s Rian Johnson. According to the Wrap, it will also include the return of John Boyega as heroic Stormtrooper Finn, Daisy Ridley as Rey and Oscar Isaac as X-wing pilot Poe Dameron. Rian Johnson's Star Wars: Episode VIII could be about to add Benicio del Toro to its cast...

We're not too far away now from director Gareth Edwards getting started on 2016's Star Wars movie, Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One. But not far behind him is Rian Johnson (Looper), who's going to be picking up the baton from Jj Abrams to direct Star Wars: Episode VIII.

Episode VIII is due in cinemas in May 2017, and will pick up many of Star Wars: The Force Awakens' cast. As such, the likes of John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Oscar Isaac are expected to headline the line up.

The Wrap reports that discussions are in very early stages, but the actor is Disney's top choice for the role. Neither Disney nor LucasFilm had any comment about the potential casting, and no details were given for the character.

Benicio Del Toro Offered Villainous Role In Star Wars: Episode VIII

20 July 2015 4:52 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Multiple sources are telling TheWrap that Benicio del Toro, who won an Oscar for his performance in Traffic, has been offered the main villainous role in Star Wars: Episode VIII, which Rian Johnson (Looper) has closed a deal to direct for Lucasfilm and Disney.

Discussions are still in early stages for the acclaimed actor, who is well-versed in everything Disney thanks to his part as The Collector in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but execs are reportedly euphoric about handing over the role of a key antagonist to del Toro.

Disney and Lucasfilm went after an A-list actor for the role – Joaquin Phoenix was also a contender, but he passed on the role. Interestingly, del Toro was at one point rumored to be playing antagonist Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness – but we all remember how that one turned out.

'Star Wars 9' Gets 'Jurassic World' Director?

10 July 2015 8:19 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

When Rian Johnson was announced as the director of Star Wars: Episode VIII, it was under the assumption that he would not only write and helm the second installment of the new trilogy, but that he would also be in control of Star Wars: Episode IX. But then rumors began to swell that Disney and Lucasfilm were so impressed with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, that they were bringing back J.J. Abrams, who'd only ever wanted to do just the one movie. Now it seems none of that is happening, as Disney and Lucasfilm have hired Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow for the job.

Of course this is an unsubstantiated rumor at this time, perpetuated by new site Heroic Hollywood looking to make a name for itself at this year's Comic-Con. As of now, Disney and LucasFilm have not confirmed Colin Trevorrow, and currently have no comment. Heroic Hollywood »

Colin Trevorrow to direct Star Wars Episode 9?

This is literally just breaking, but not official in any way as yet, though it might be by the end of the day. Heroic Hollywood are reporting that Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow will be announced as the director of Star Wars Episode 9 at the Lucasfilm panel at San Diego Comic Con later today.

The news was broken by the legendary El Mayimbe whose previous scoops over at Latino Review have pretty much all confirmed shortly afterwards. The rumour was posted to his new website Heroic Hollywood.

J.J. Abrams will bring Episode 7, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, to cinemas this December with Looper helmer Rian Johnson lined up to helm Episode 8 in 2017.

Trevorrow just made $1.4 billion for Universal for the brilliant Jurassic World.

Rian Johnson (Looper) is directing the film, which will reportedly be shooting in London next month. Us financiers talk China, TV opportunities in Karlovy Vary

6 July 2015 3:20 AM, PDT | ScreenDaily | See recent ScreenDaily news »

The growing business opportunities afforded by China and the TV sector were among subjects discussed by Us finance heavyweights FilmNation and Endgame Entertainment during an industry panel at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (Kviff).

Sitting on the panel titled Understanding and Overcoming the Hurdles of Hollywood, were Milan Popelka, COO at sales and production outfit FilmNation Entertainment; Douglas E. Hansen, president of financier Endgame Entertainment Company and CEO of Endgame Releasing Company; and Us film director Andrew Renzi (Franny).

Kviff regular Popelka - who has been at sales giant FilmNation since its inception in 2008 - and finance veteran Hansen, both recognised that Hollywood is awash with funding opportunities today, but that industry face greater challenges when it comes to finding strong content.

“Everyone is so hungry for material right now in Hollywood,” said Popelka. “Money is a commodity, to an extent. When we put an interesting movie together, finding the money is not the problem; it’s the »
