Storyline

Nurse Morgan West is convinced she's dying because 'prophetic' cat Debby from the senior home where she works came to her. House assumes she's a malingerer, but she soon gets symptoms one can't fake. Even a coma patient who attracted the cat later dies. House taunts Kutter's mild superstitious practices. Taub hopes for a better job with college mate Neil Zane in the medical supplies business. Trivia

The idea of a cat predicting death is probably based on the real story of Oscar, a cat (born in 2005) living in Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Providence, Rhode Island. Oscar has predicted the death of at least 25 people, never making a mistake. He follows the procedure described in House, paying a visit to a patient who is within hours of death and sleeping on the patient's bed. See more »

Goofs

At approx 20 minutes, House is sitting with the cat on his lap and a cigar in his mouth, apparently parodying James Bond's nemesis Ernst Stavro Blofeld. However, the Bond villain he quotes is Goldfinger: "No, Mr Bond, I expect you to die!" Furthermore Blofeld's cat is always white and Blofeld does not smoke cigars. See more »

Quotes

Dr. Chris Taub: Her neural exam was normal. No subsequent seizures. It's not life threatening. It's not important.
Dr. Gregory House: Luckily, neither are you.

Cat fun
24 March 2009 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

A nurse tells House that a cat has predicted her death, and wants House to do something about it. A great premise, and a great comic episode, as House keeps messing with the cat in question while trying to decide what to do about the anxious nurse. Apparently, the cat can predict who will die, and spooks everyone when it predicts the death of one of the coma patients, who promptly ups and dies. The cat "predicts" deaths by laying down next to the "victim." Now, this next part is a bit forced, but it turns out Kutner is superstitious. House begins doing things like spilling salt as he and Kutner sit at a table, propping a ladder near a doorway, and so on. It is sort of funny, but you can hear the scriptwriters' creaky gears turning dreaming up this bit. In the end, the cat -- which does some amazing stunts for a brainless animal -- wins House over. But watch the episode yourself to see how and why. The actress playing the terrified nurse is excellent, by the way.
