Destination America has two new shows heading our way later this month, and if you're a monster aficionado, you'll want to mark your calendar accordingly. Read on for the details!

Across the American wilderness, millions of acres of uncharted swamplands and underground lairs are rumored to be inhabited by unidentified monsters. Generations of speculation have piqued the curiosity of nearby communities and monster enthusiasts alike, but none have come close to solving the mystery of what these elusive creatures are… until now.

Destination America hunts for the truth in the new three-part series "Swamp Monsters," premiering Friday, August 22nd, at 9/8c, followed by back-to-back premiere episodes of the new six-part series "Monsters Underground" at 10/9c and 10:30/9:30c.

First, deep in the heart of Louisiana’s bayou, upwards of 100 people go missing each year, and if you ask locals, many will say "Swamp Monsters" got ‘em. »

Armed Doctor Saved Lives in Hospital Shooting Near Philadelphia, Police Chief Says

Authorities are trying to determine why a man identified as a patient fatally shot a caseworker at a hospital complex in a Philadelphia suburb and whether a psychiatrist who pulled out his own gun and wounded the gunman had concerns about him. The psychiatrist, Dr. Lee Silverman, was grazed in the temple during the gunfight in his office Thursday afternoon with patient Richard Plotts, Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan said. "We do believe that there were some issues between the doctor and the patient, but whether or not he actually feared him is unclear," Whelan said. Plotts, 49, was hospitalized in critical condition. »

Denzel Washington To Receive San Sebastian Donostia Award

Madrid – Denzel Washington will receive a career achievement 2014 Donostia Lifetime Achievement Award at September’s 62nd San Sebastian Festival, the highest-profile fest in the Spanish-speaking world.

Washington and director Antoine Fuqua will also present “The Equalizer” at its European premiere, which will open San Sebastian’s 2014 edition on Sept. 19.

Sony Pictures’ big-screen redo of the ‘80s hit TV show, with Washington playing McCall, a hero who helps the hopelessly helpless, “The Equalizer” is already being talked up as a potential awards contender, though it will not be seen until it world premieres at the Toronto Festival where, on paper at least it weighs in as on of the festival’s highlights and commercial heavyweights.

First Look: Jason Clarke Faces the Elements in 'Everest'

A first-look image has arrived from Universal's "Everest," starring Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes and Jake Gyllenhaal as climbers in two different expeditions faced with one of the fiercest snowstorms ever recorded on the daunting mountain face. The film, which just started principal photography on location in Nepal, is directed by Baltasar Kormakur (helmer of Iceland's 2013 Oscar entry "The Deep," "Two Guns," "Contraband"), and adapted for the screen by Mark Medoff and "Slumdog Millionaire" Oscar winning scribe Simon Beaufoy. Baltasar Kormakur Chats About ‘Everest,’ ‘Vikings’ and ‘On The Job’

Warm and candid, Baltasar Kormakur, who is Iceland’s top film director and producer, is attending Goteborg fest to receive the inaugural Nordic Honorary Dragon Award and give a masterclass. While taking a quick break from shooting “Everest,” the helmer chatted with Variety about his work philosophy, his balancing act between Iceland and Hollywood, and various projects, including “Vikings” and “On the Job.”

Repped by Wme and attorney Peter Nelson, Kormakur’s credits include “The Deep,” the previous Icelandic candidate for the foreign-language Oscar, and “Two Guns” with Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg.

While leading a prolific career in the U.S., Kormakur is also, via his outfit Rvk Studios, a leading force within the Icelandic film biz, producing ambitious local movies and TV series, such as real-life survival tale “The Deep” and the skein project “Vatnajokull.”
