She desperately wants to leave London and go on a world tour but husband Michael feels that he cannot leave until the end of the Parliamentary session in five months time. Soames comes to her rescue. All three of them travel to Washington but when Soames sees Irene and Jon in the lobby, he withdraws. to the solitude of his room. In England, the 1926 General Strike is launched and Michael is despondent at the lack of conciliation on both sides.
