Robert Q. Lewis welcomed television stations WXYZ (Detroit), KECA (Los Angeles), KBTV (Denver) and KGO (San Francisco), ''receiving 'The Name's the Same' live for the first time tonight.'' In this era, it was common for local network affiliates to time-shift live programs and run kinescopes of the live programs in different time slots. In addition, the ABC network had far fewer affiliates than CBS or NBC. In TV markets where there was no ABC affiliate, the existing CBS or NBC TV stations often cherry-picked the best programs from the ABC lineup to run in place of weaker CBS or NBC offerings in the same time slot.
