“Harry Potter,” “Twilight” sequels lead list of anticipated 2011 releases

29 December 2010 7:15 AM, PST | Hollywoodnews.com | See recent Hollywoodnews.com news »

By Sean O’Connell

Hollywoodnews.com: As soon as “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One” ended, I wanted to see the finale … so it’s no surprise that “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two” leads a list of the Most Anticipated Movies for 2011 in a poll conducted by Fandango.com.

More than 1,000 people surveyed over the Christmas holiday chose the last “Harry Potter” as the film they can’t wait to see next year. Fans of the boy wizard will have to wait until July 15, which is when Warner Bros.’ series finally concludes.

Coming in second place in the poll was yet another sequel: “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1,” which is due in theaters on Nov. 18. Guys, meanwhile, said they are most looking forward to the second “Hangover,” which will be in theaters on May 26.

So 2011 looks sequel-heavy, and Marvel has to be a little »

Set Photos: ‘X-Men First Class’ and ‘Captain America’

28 December 2010 1:00 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Yesterday we brought you a big lineup of rumored spoiler tidbits from X-Men: First Class. Now we've got a couple extra spy photos snapped on set. Some of them tie into one of the bits mentioned in that roundup, so if you're looking for more hints on how some parts of the film are going to play out, check after the break. Plus, there are new photos of the Captain America set, courtesy of a Dutch magazine. First up: the X-Men: First Class pics. Taken in Georgia, these show a storyboard that appears to represent an action scene featuring Riptide (or possibly Havoc), crew scouting an aircraft hangar, and several shots from the beach scene where the team's jet crashes. The spy info from yesterday [1] said that beach scene involves a conflict between the Blackbird and a submarine during the Cuban Missile Crisis. (And, yeah, they're fudging the Blackbird timeline a bit, »

Some of the Twilight cast's other films were also in the top fifty as well. Here's a rundown:

New 'X-Men: First Class' Set Photos And Possible Plot Details Emerge

28 December 2010 7:46 AM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Remember those "X-Men: First Class" set photos of the Blackbird that we posted earlier in the month? It turns out there's a whole lot more where that came from!

Comic Book Movie has posted several photos from the "First Class" set, including an extensive look at the destroyed Blackbird that we showed you a few weeks ago. An included piece of storyboard art indicates that a mutant may be responsible for the decimation of the Blackbird, though the exact whos and hows remain unknown.

That's not all we've got for you on the "X-Men" front, however, as someone who claims to have been a part of the "First Class" crew has posted a wide range of potential spoilers for the movie over at Superhero Hype. We've posted some of the highlights here.

Before we proceed, we should acknowledge the very real possibility that everything you're about to read is bogus »

Marvel Rumors: The Avengers to Battle the Skrulls and Kree? Demi Lovato Up for a Role? Plus Minor X-Men: First Class Spoilers

27 December 2010 2:30 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Rumors never sleep. Doesn't matter that we've just come through the Christmas holiday, that most of La is still asleep to gather strength for New Year's Eve, and that the Eastern seaboard is under a couple feet of snow. There are possible news tidbits floating around about The Avengers and X-Men: First Class. The X-Men stuff is possibly spoilerish, so it's after the break. The most non-spoilerish bit is the not quite reliable news that Disney star Demi Lovato (Camp Rock) is up for a role in The Avengers. Make of that what you will, but since we know most of the major roles, if anything happens it would likely be for a relatively small part. Also: feel free to grumble about Disney / Marvel co-pollination conspiracy theories in the comments. [RadarOnline [1]] A recurring rumor from The Avengers and possibly spoilerish news about X-Men: First Class follow after the break. So the »

Owf’s 52 Must See Films of 2011

24 December 2010 11:00 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Usually around this time of the year we list maybe 10 or 20 films that we think are as absolute ‘Must See’s’ for what the next 12 months of cinema has to offer us but as the clock is ticking ever closer to midnight on 2010, we thought we would challenge ourselves a little further this time around. The question I posed to the Owf staff recently was… can Cinema in 2011 produce enough ‘Must See’ films to hit 52, which would ratio out to be just one film per week? That’s all we are hopeful for here… just one film every Friday that justifies us parting with our ever increasingly important cash in these tough economic times.

Did we manage to find 52? Kind of.

There’s certainly 52 films listed here but once we got to around 30, the whole thing became a struggle and we had to fill it out disappointingly with the usual array of over-budgeted summer spectacles, »

Photos from the Set of X-men: First Class

23 December 2010 8:51 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Crane technician Joe Cuzan has taken a few photos on the set of X-Men: First Class which give some insight into the size of the production.  The images give you a look at the Blackbird (the aircraft of the X-Men seen in previous set photos) in ruins, plus a storyboard that a source more knowledgeable than myself suggested looks like "Riptide involved in some sort of fight scene." X-Men: First Class stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, and January Jones.  The film opens on June 3, 2011.  Hit the jump to check out the images. Via Comic Book Movie: [gallery link="file" columns="1"] Here's some more information on the Blackbird courtesy of Wikipedia: When the X-Men were first introduced, they were portrayed as travelling in Professor Xavier's private jet and helicopter, advanced but fairly conventional aircraft with remote autopilots (i.e., the Professor flew them from home). When the series resumed in 1975, the X-Men were shown using a new strato-Jet, »

Kevin Bacon Talks Sebastian Shaw In ‘X-Men: First Class’

21 December 2010 12:26 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

The X-Men series has had its share of ups and downs. While the first two films were fairly critically and financially successfully, the latter two were only financially successful. In fact, both X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine were so reviled by fanboys that the sequels to both have been drastically overhauled.

Take, for example, X-Men: First Class. It’s a 1960s period film, with a class-act director in the form of Matthew Vaughan, and a badass cast to boot. They’ve even got Kevin Bacon, otherwise known as that guy from the six degrees of, who was recently confirmed as playing the sideburns-sporting Sebastian Shaw. Today, Kevin Bacon discusses the version of Sebastian Shaw we’ll get in First ...

Kevin Bacon Confirms His 'X-Men: First Class' Role, Doesn't Expect Much Action

21 December 2010 7:01 AM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

It's about as official as it gets: Kevin Bacon is Sebastian Shaw.

Rumors have been swirling around about who the "Hollow Man" actor might play in "X-Men: First Class" since he first joined the cast, but it now appears official that Bacon is signed on as Sebastian Shaw. The character was confirmed in a recent interview with the actor, though Bacon added that he doesn't expect he'll get in on too much action for the superhero film.

"I'll let the younger actors do that," he told Philadelphia Style (via Coming Soon). "I'm more one of those sit-in-my-chair-and-destroy-the-world type of guys."

It's a bit disappointing to hear that Bacon won't be filming action-heavy scenes, especially given Sebastian Shaw's mutant ability to transform kinetic energy into pure physical strength. Perhaps a stunt double will get involved with the action scenes in Bacon's place — we hope so, at least, because ignoring Shaw's »

'inFamous' Getting Drawn Into DC Comic Book Miniseries

20 December 2010 3:08 PM, PST | MTV Multiplayer | See recent MTV Multiplayer news »

Way back when, "inFamous" first showed up on the PlayStation 3 with a hero named Cole who looked like a light-haired emo biker, but he got a slightly more Backstreet-Boyish makeover when "inFamous 2" was announced. Sucker Punch later reverted to their earlier designs, however, and that's the look Cole is going to bring with him to the new "inFamous" comics from the Superman and Batman makers at DC.

Up until recently, DC's WildStorm imprint had been handling their video game adaptations and spin-offs, but since Ws folded, the larger DC umbrella has been absorbing such projects. That's where Cole's six-issue miniseries will come from, according to an announcement on the official PlayStation blog.

The story will be from the mind of writer William Harms, who you may know from "Wolverine: The Anniversary" at Marvel and "Impaler" at Top Cow. Artwork will be handled by Eric Nguyen, of "Halo: Helljumper" and "X-Men: First Class" fame, »

Filming begins on Jekyll Island for X-Men: First Class

20 December 2010 1:00 PM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

X-men: First Class has now started filming on Jekyll Island, Georgia, USA.

Production on the mutant prequel has until now been taking place in the UK, at Pinewood Studios and at locations including Oxford.

Live5 News reports that shooting has begun on several locations of Jekyll Island.

Eric Garvey, chief communications officer for Jekyll Island Authority, said: "Some areas you won't recognise but some areas you will; for example, the fishing pier will be recognisable in the film. So we are excited about that. Hopefully, it will drive some visitation here and on in the future."

Film crews staying on the island are injecting cash into its economy and will also be at other locations throughout Glynn County, says the report.

Set photographs from the island surfaced on a Facebook page earlier this month. The images - two of which are featured here - appear to show pieces of an »
