Lex's ploy of using a dummy's silhouette framed by a window as bait for a would-be assassin is reminiscent of the Sherlock Holmes tale The Adventure of the Empty House. In the Holmes story, he places a lifelike waxwork bust in his window, which is then "shot" by his would-be assassin, Colonel Moran. See more
