DVD Review: Kiddy Grade – The Complete Series

Kiddy Grade is an oddly named 24-episode science fiction anime series created by gimik and Gonzo Digimation in 2002. It was directed by a third of gimik – Keiji Gotoh, who’s list of animation credits is as long as your arm, but includes such gems as Read or Die and Afro Samurai: Resurrection. The series found an American audience via FUNimation Entertainment, and was later re-released in 2007 on the big screen in Japan as three movies (Ignition, Maelstrom and Truth Dawn).

Kiddy Grade is set in a future where the human race inhabits many other planets in a universe where the Galactic Organization of Trade and Tariffs (Gott) are the Galactic Union police force. The protagonists of this anime are Éclair and Lumière, an Es team from the secret branch of the Gott known as the “Shadow Unit”, a group of superpowered elite enforcers.

Éclair and Lumière are C-class agents (powers are rated C – lowest,

Samuel L. Jackson has just confirmed that Afro Samurai is indeed going to be converted into a live action feature film with production set to start next year. The Indomina Group, a U.S. and Dominican Republic based production company, announced on Thursday that they are working with Jackson and Gonzo Studios on the project.

Jackson provided the voice for the main character in the 2007, 5 episode anime series Afro Samurai. He stayed on and provided his voice for the made-for-television sequel entitled Afro Samurai: Resurrection which made its debut in 2009.

Producers are hoping to have a screenwriter and director chosen by the end of the summer and the cast selected by the end of the year, with shooting expected to begin next year at the Pinewood Indomina Studios located in the Dominican Republic.

Sam Jackson is Producing a Live-Action Adaptation of 'Afro Samurai'

The property has already made a splash as a popular animated series, but now Gonzo Studios is teaming with The Indomina Group for a live-action adaptation of Afro Samurai with series voice talent Samuel L. Jackson stepping up to produce the adaptation of the 2007 animated series which also spawned a 2009 TV movie Afro Samurai: Resurrection. Meshing mind-bending hip-hop, Japanese culture and some truly killer action, the original series followed a black samurai's hunt for a man named Justice (voiced by Ron Perlman) who murdered his father. However, it's not clear if the live-action film will adapt the same story or not. No writer or director have been attached to the project yet, but producers hope to have one by the end of the summer with the cast rounded out by the end of the year to begin shooting sometime in 2012. As of now it sounds like Jackson isn't ...

Beautiful Relationship Between Afros, Samurais to Continue on Big Screen

Everyone who's seen his wallet knows Samuel L. Jackson is a Bad Mother F**ker, but to solidify that claim he helped combine two of the baddest ass things on the planet: afros and samurais. In collaboration with manga creator Takashi Okazaki and Gonzo Studios, Sammy J. brought "Afro Samurai" to Spike TV in 2007 to resounding acclaim.

After the initial 5-episode run of the unconventional anime, the title African-American swordsman was brought back for an Emmy-winning TV movie "Afro Samurai: Resurrection," which only left fans clamoring for more. Thus, the official site claims the original creative team is joining forces with the Dominican Republic-based Indomnia Group to create a live-action film.

So what can the uninitiated expect? A strange, anachronistic blend of modern and feudal Japanese environments, for one thing. The mega-ultra-super violent toon is distinctive for its mature themes, dope RZA soundtrack, and literal geysers of blood comin' out

"Afro Samurai" Goes Live-Action

The Indomina Group, Samuel L. Jackson and Gonzo Studios are teaming to produce a live action film based on the popular “Afro Samurai” animated series.

The original manga followed the life of Afro Samurai who witnessed his father (owner of the No. 1 headband) being killed by the hands of a gunslinger named Justice (owner of the No. 2 headband) while he was a child. As an adult, Afro sets off to avenge his father's death and kill Justice.

The property was adapted into a five-episode anime TV series by Studio Gonzo in 2007, a TV movie sequel "Afro Samurai: Resurrection" in 2009, and a successful video game. Jackson lent his voice to the character in these works.

Jackson, Jasbinder Singh Mann and Shin Ishikawa will produce. A writer & director will be attached shortly and shooting will take place at Pinewood Indomina Studios in the Dominican Republic in 2012.

Samuel L. Jackson Co-Producing Live Action Afro Samurai Film

Having voiced the character for both its anime mini-series and TV movie, Afro Samurai: Resurrection, Samuel L. Jackson is now moving to the producer's chair (they get chairs, right?) for the property's live action feature film debut. Per the press release we received, Jackson has teamed up with The Indomina Group to bring the character to the silver screen. The plan is to have a writer and director attached to the pic this summer with casting to be shored up by the end of the year. The pic will shoot in the Dominican Republic in 2012. For those unfamiliar, Afro Samurai was originally a manga series written/illustrated by Takashi Okazaki. The series centers on Afro Samurai, a hero with a familiar origin: after witnessing his father killed by a gunslinger named Justice as a youngster, adult Afro dedicates himself to avenging his father's untimely death. In 2009, Afro Samurai: Resurrection won

Samuel L. Jackson Developing Live-Action ‘Afro Samurai’ Movie

One of the biggest roles Samuel L. Jackson has had in the past ten years wasn’t in a film, but in the animated show Afro Samurai. The title itself tells you most of what you need to know about the series, which is based on a manga of the same name by Takashi Okazaki. Following a samurai who avenges the death of his father in a futuristic (yet feudal) Japan, it was made up of a five-episode miniseries, which also spawned the made-for-tv animated film, Afro Samurai: Resurrection.

Now, Variety says that Jackson wants to make a live-action adaptation of the property. He might not end up starring, although the actor is producing with Indomina Group’s Jasbinder Singh Mann, as is Shin Ishikawa of Gonzo Studios. While the project was just officially announced, it all seems to be developing rather quickly — the plan is to get a writer

Samuel L. Jackson’s Afro Samurai Live-Action Film is Alive and Slashing

Fans of Samuel L. Jackson’s “Afro Samurai” rejoice — The Man has teamed up with The Indomina Group to bring you a live-action “Afro Samurai” film. The character originally surfaced in Takashi Okazaki’s manga series, before landing his own animated mini-series back in 2007 and moving on to an original movie called “Afro Samurai: Resurrection” in 2009. After that, what’s next except a live-action version? Said Jackson about the impending movie: This has been one of my very favorite properties ever since our amazing debut at Comic Con with the original series pilot out of Japan. I can’t wait to produce the epic feature film version with our new partners at The Indomina Group. The press release doesn’t really make clear if Jackson, who voiced the animated character, will also star, though it’s confirmed that he will produce. Given his advance age (the man is 62 now, after

WWE’s Triple H is ‘The Chaperone’

WWE Studios have announced the leading role debut of one of the biggest names in the WWE, Triple H. The wrestler, real name Paul Levesque, will join Kevin Corrigan, Ariel Winter and Annabeth Gish (one of my all-time favourite actresses), in the upcoming comedy, The Chaperone.

Triple H will play ex-con Ray Bradstone, a former getaway driver determined to turn his life around and establish a relationship with his estranged daughter Sally, in the film directed by Stephen Herek (Critters, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, The Mighty Ducks).

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m pretty interested to see The Chaperone. For one, Triple H can do comedy and action – we’ve seen that in the WWE; two it also stars Annabeth Gish; and three, it’s directed by Stephen Herek – who has made some damn fine comedies over the years.

‘The Cup of Tears’ Trailer

The Cup of Tears trailer has been gathering momentum with fans claiming its beautiful CGI puts that of many Hollywood studios to shame. It’s a unique hybrid, featuring ancient samurai empires battling in a post-apocalyptic future – something you might associate with Asia, but no. Believe it or not, filming was done in Slovenia and post production in Ireland.

And while it looks sci-fi, the plot reads like a fairy tale:

The Cup of Tears follows a scorned geisha who creates a magical cup made of tears that causes any man who drinks from it to fall into a permanent sleep. One night the cup is stolen, setting off a chain of events that threatens civil war amongst the clans. Taro, a gifted samurai, sets out to find the cup and one who can break the spell.

Though this summary and what’s in the trailer don’t seem to match,

Afroheimtheater Gewinnspiel: Afro Samurai auf DVD und Blu-ray Disc abstauben

Sorry, this entry is only available in German.

Emmy Nominations Reveal Few Surprises

Fey's series, 30 Rock, was handed 22 Emmy nominations this morning, which stands as a record for a comedy series. She and Alec Baldwin were also nominated for acting awards. Plus, for the first time some of the other actors on NBC's laffer were recognized. Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer and Tracy Morgan all picked up supporting nominations.

MacFarlane's Family Guy was also nominated for best comedy series, the first time an animated show has cracked that category since The Flintstones in 1961. Two years ago MacFarlane decided to pull his show from contention in the animated series category to have it considered for best comedy.

Mad Men, the drama about the advertising world in the sixties, picked up 16 nominations in the drama categories, including a best actor nod for Jon Hamm. Hamm is also nominated as
