Storyline

When his best friend, a championship runner, is killed in a car accident while running home from a party, high school football star CAM STILES suffers a nervous breakdown from the guilt and pain. It also tears apart his relationship with his father, GARY STILES, who also happens to be his football coach. When Cam decides to quit football and join the track team to honor his friend, his former teammates turn against him, too. Eventually, Cam goes for a sub-four that seems impossible and manages to win and lose the race at the same time. Written by Bryce Zabel

Trivia

At the end of the movie, the voice-over misquotes the proverb about the antelope and the lion. The speaker substitutes the word "fastest" for "slowest" in the line, "Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest antelope, or it will starve." The full proverb (wording may vary slightly, according to who's telling it) is: "Every morning in Africa, an antelope wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion, or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest antelope, or it will starve. It doesn't matter if you're the lion or the antelope, when the sun comes up you'd better be running." See more »

Chasing A Dream -Run to See this One ***1/2
4 May 2009 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Larry Levinson, in association with Hallmark Channel, has done it again. He has produced a wonderful film.

When his childhood buddy is killed in a tragic accident due to a mistake that the friend made, the friend resolves to complete the dead youth's task of running a mile within 4 minutes.

Before this tragedy struck, our hero had been on the football team coached by the man who happens to be his father. Treat Williams, as the football coach, plays an unforgettable character in tune with the usual Williams performances-difficult, abrasive, opinionated and a stickler to the rules.

The aim of his son finds him soon in conflict with his father. There is an excellent supporting performance by Kevin Kilner as Coach Leo, who in turn comes into conflict with his fellow colleague Williams over this matter.

Besides being a movie of the human spirit, it is a story of sportsmanship and resolve as well as determination and growing up.

A wonderful family film highly recommended. You have to see how our hero is able to win everyone over including his dead pal's mother.
