Great to see Nicholas Smith.

Barry is given the laborious task by his Aunt Jessie of looking after an aged, retired Vicar for the day, naturally he's joined by Alvin, Entwistle and Howard, nobody is happy about the arrangement, but it proves to be a memorable day.

I quite enjoyed this, a bit daft, but funny enough, it definitely benefited from the presence of Nicholas Smith, a very, very competent comedy actor, he was very funny here. Nice to see him reunited on screen with Frank Thornton, even if the latter did seem to play a very minor part. Nicholas Smith is one of those older actors that you so want to see on the show, a shame he wasn't a regular.

Good to see Tony Barton back as the drunken man, he was funny last time round, and proved to be a good foil for the two Policemen. The Police were actually pretty fun here.

Several funny scenes here, overall, this was a very good episode.

Perhaps the best episode of this series, 8/10.

A Short Introduction to Cooper's Rules

Roy Clarke always had a thing about vicars on the show.

Several in the early years were foul tempered oafs such as the one played John Horsley twice.

Here Barry is forced to take out a retired vicar to lunch and enjoy the countryside.

Only for the dozy policemen to abduct him as they thought the vicar had been kidnapped.

Until then PC Cooper had been telling PC Walsh about his rules for policing. Such as the two drunks given soft drink cans that had a beeper.

Nicholas Smith plays the grumpy vicar. It was a shame that he did not share any scenes with his Are You Being Served colleague Frank Thornton.

We get to see the dozy cops inside a police station. I sensed they are not popular with their superior officers. I was surprised that after all these years they are not aware of the elderly gentlemen they bump into every week.

It certainly was an average episode with the scenery being more memorable.
