Ricky Gervais will once again host the Golden Globes

16 November 2011 1:35 PM, PST | Filmonic.com | See recent Filmonic news »

Ricky Gervais caused quite a stir while hosting the Golden Globes last year. He threw digs at Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie’s “two-dimensional” characters in The Tourist , made suggestions about certain Scientologists, and thought the award for Special Effects should go to whoever photoshopped the Sex and the City 2 poster. Gervais Explains Cattrall Jibe

7 November 2011 8:11 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Ricky Gervais is adamant Kim Cattrall is wrong to take offence at his swipe at the Sex And The City cast, insisting she misunderstood the jibe.

The Office funnyman took aim at several actors when he presented the Golden Globes in January, including a joke that Cattrall, 55, and her co-stars had been airbrushed in the poster for the Sex and the City 2 movie.

The actress blasted Gervais following the ceremony, accusing him of "ageism" and making a "cheap" remark - but he's adamant he was making a serious point about the way Hollywood treats actors as they get older.

He tells Britain's Guardian Magazine, "It's the opposite (of what Cattrall said). I don't think you lose your sensuality at 50. But why are we pandering to Hollywood that you have to look 25? The target is the opposite of what she thought." »

Ricky Gervais: 'Bring on the haters'

5 November 2011 4:34 AM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

In 10 years, the 'little fat bloke' from Reading has become a comedy god. But after the 'mong' row, and on the eve of his new TV show Life's Too Short, have we fallen out of love with Ricky Gervais? Plus Ricky Gervais: a prize clown – in pictures

Ricky Gervais was enjoying a relatively quiet time, promoting his new show, when I met him a few weeks ago at his office in Hampstead. We had a nice chat, he talked about comedy, explained in the abstract that causing offence isn't in and of itself a bad thing, then a few days later managed to offend everyone so violently that he wound up being lectured on morality by the front page of the Sun.

He had tossed out a reference to "mong" on Twitter and, when challenged, defended and aggressively reused it on the basis that the word had evolved from »

Alice Eve Joins Breast Cancer Drama 'Decoding Annie Parker'

After playing the role of “Hard 10” in “She’s Out of My League,” and having her entire “Sex and the City 2” subplot revolve around whether or not her character wore a bra, it’s nice to see Alice Eve take on a role that requires some acting. The British thespian has just signed on to “Decoding Annie Parker,” based on a true story in which Samantha Morton plays the titular role of Parker, a woman who gets cancer and tries to fight it alongside geneticist Mary Claire King (Helen Hunt), who ends up discovering a gene linked to breast cancer.… »

Whip up a cauldron of haterade, because this week's Bad Movie We Love is a foray into children's Halloween cinema. It's a bargain bin Addams Family ripoff with spooky gusts of wind beneath its wings. It's Hocus Pocus, my pretties, Disney's perennial Halloween favorite for people who were exactly 7 in 1993. (Present!) We've got yer veteran character actresses in hag attire, a couple of winning child stars, and two songs that should render you songless until Thanksgiving. No, this is not a prequel to Sex and the City 2. »

Contrarian Corner: 'Whitney' is better than '2 Broke Girls.' You heard me.

28 October 2011 1:15 PM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Before this year’s fall TV season began, pretty much every critic and member of the TV-watching public assumed that 2 Broke Girls would be the better of the two Whitney Cummings-created shows. 2 Broke Girls boasted an enviable spot on CBS’ Monday comedy lineup, Kat Dennings’ indie star power, and Michael Patrick King’s Sex and the City sheen; the eponymous Whitney had a comedian with unproven acting chops and questionable likability as its lead, an annoying (and ubiquitous) ad campaign, and terrible early buzz.

Then when the pilots aired, things happened as predicted: 2 Broke Girls instantly broke out as »
