Sarah Jessica Parker has been synonymous with Sex and the City‘s Carrie Bradshaw. But just because she’s played her for so long, doesn’t mean she’s the only character she might have a connection to.

Parker once shared she had a few similarities with Carrie Bradshaw, but quite a few differences as well. Parker related to Carrie’s fascination with people, and the character’s enjoyment of the New York City life. But those might’ve been where the similarities ended, as Parker couldn’t relate to Carrie’s specific lifestyle. Carrie’s obsession with luxury fashion and her promiscuity were all things that Parker couldn’t agree with.
“I think there’s not a lot about Carrie that is actually similar to my life. Our choices have been so radically different.

Disappointing sequels often fail to capture the essence of the original, lacking depth or originality. Ignoring what made the first movie great sets up sequels for failure. Legacy sequels face the challenge of meeting high expectations and can be especially disappointing if they fall short.
Disappointing movie sequels were aplenty in the 2010s. As the era of live-action remakes took off, studios looked to their existing IP for easy-to-produce movies. However, some sequels were not uncalled for but simply failed to live up to expectations. Whether sequels like this came a year or 20 years later, they faced the challenge of continuing a great story but lacked the quality or gravitas of their predecessors. Legacy sequels have to contend with decades of anticipation, making them all the more disappointing if they are not good.

Sex and the City expanded its audience and its story with its 2008 feature named after the series. But the film’s star, Sarah Jessica Parker, felt the second movie had an element to it that the first lacked.

The first Sex and the City feature was such a success that it spawned a second highly profitable movie. But Sex and the City 2 was very different from the first film. The movie would follow the girls halfway across the world in Abu Dhabi, away from their familiar playground in New York City. The film’s director Michael Patrick King, who also produced the show, intentionally did so to separate it from the first feature.
“My inspiration for this movie was the audience at the first movie,” King once told Collider.

The new HBO series “The Gilded Age” hails from “Downton Abbey” creator Julian Fellowes, and much like that hit period series, this one features a lot of characters. Several cadres of characters keep the plot pivoting back and forth between households and prominent locations around 1890s New York, as the show tells a story of New York City on the cusp of change, where the battle between old money and new money — as well as old and new ways of doing things — is being fought.
A mix of veteran actors and actresses balance out some newer talent in Julian Fellowes’ latest fictional show — from “Sex and the City’s” Cynthia Nixon to Meryl Streep’s youngest daughter Louisa Jacobson, who plays a main heroine at the heart of aristocratic New York City.

The following contains major spoilers for And Just Like That... Season 2, Episode 11, "The Last Supper Part Two: Entrée," available now on Max.
The Season 2 finale of Sex & the City's sequel, And Just Like That…, aired on August 24 with some serious fanfare: the return of Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall), the selling of Carrie's single-girl apartment, and Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Aidan (John Corbett) moving in together after over 20 years apart. At least, that's what was supposed to happen.
Instead, after Carrie's gorgeous, friend-filled "Last Supper" at her studio apartment, Aidan arrived not to move into their new place, but to tell her that he needed to spend more time with his youngest son. He entered the apartment he had previously refused to step foot in, which is when Carrie knew something was wrong. Carrie would never ask him to not spend time with his son, but his five-year request felt astronomical.

The following contains spoilers for And Just Like That... Season 2, streaming on Max.
Carrie Bradshaw's arc on And Just Like That… focused on grief after losing the love of her life, John "Big" Preston. When she was finally ready to move on, Season 2 introduced another big love in her life -- her former fiancé, Aidan Shaw. While there were many instances where the Sex and the City revival show didn't honor the original characters, what shocked audiences most was the show's attempt to dismiss Big as Carrie's true soulmate and portray Aidan as Carrie's endgame.
Aidan was a small part of the show's second season, but he had a lot of impact. He and Carrie get back together, and their relationship turns serious from one episode to the next. But the real question the audience can't help but wonder is: Did Carrie and Aidan end up together in Season 2's finale?...

Carrie Bradshaw's self-centered behavior, including putting her own problems before her friends, is a red flag for toxic friendship. Carrie has shown a lack of understanding and representation of women's concerns, as seen by her comments on condoms and vaginal odor. Carrie's financial irresponsibility and manipulation of friends to fulfill her own desires demonstrate her immaturity and inability to be a functioning adult.
Sex and the City tells the story of Caroline "Carrie" Bradshaw's (Sarah Jessica Parker) story alongside her friends — Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte York (Kristin Davis), and Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) — as they navigate being friends despite their different personalities, major social issues, and their always changing sexual lives. Despite being created by real-life writer, Candace Bushnell for her column "Sex and the City" in The New York Observer, the character of Carrie has now taken on a life of its own.

Developed by Michael Patrick King, the Max original takes place 11 years after the “Sex and the City 2” movie. "And Just Like That" just wrapped up its second season on Aug. 24, and one of its buzziest storylines was the highly anticipated return of John Corbett as Aidan Shaw.

Ever since And Just Like That... premiered in 2021, fans have longed for updates on Kim Cattrall's Samantha Jones.
As you'll recall, Carrie's friend was last seen in the 2010 movie Sex and the City 2.
Thankfully, we've had some updates about Samantha throughout the sequel series' two-season run, but Thursday's finale gave us our first (and probably only!) look at Samantha in 2023.
So, what brought Samantha back into Carrie's orbit?
Carrie's big farewell to her apartment.
The apartment was a huge character in Sex and the City, with some of the most significant developments taking place there.
As a result, it's an iconic location for fans and the people in Carrie's orbit.
Samantha planned to make a surprise appearance for the farewell dinner, but her flight from London was delayed, meaning she couldn't make it.
Boo. Hiss.
"Miranda and Charlotte told me all about it," Samantha declared.

Samantha Jones' return in the season two finale of And Just Like That... was meant to be a surprise but got leaked due to social media and internet culture. Samantha will make her long-awaited return through a phone call to Carrie, marking her first appearance in the series since Sex and the City 2 in 2010. Despite Samantha's return, it doesn't appear that the conflicts between Kim Cattrall and her co-stars have been completely resolved, as the actresses won't be on set together for the reunion.

Sex and the City fans will finally meet Kathy, the woman Aidan Shaw married after his big breakup with Carrie Bradshaw. While Kathy was never seen in the original series, she was mentioned once in seaosn six and again in Sex and the City 2. While fans know that Aidan and Kathy married sometime before Carrie ran into him in an awkward season 6 encounter, they never learned much about their relationship timeline. We’ve gathered everything we have learned about Kathy and Aidan from Sex and the City and And Just Like That… so far.
When did Aidan and Kathy meet?
By the time Carrie ran into Aidan in the season 6 episode, “To Market, to Market,” he was married and already had a baby who appeared to be about four months old. The timeline doesn’t make much sense. Still, we can assume Aidan met Kathy not long after he and Carrie split for good.

Che Diaz initially annoyed fans as a one-dimensional character in And Just Like That... season 1, but their own storyline in season 2 has allowed them to grow and evolve. The show's attempt to be modern and progressive backfired with Che Diaz's character, reducing them to a prop for the main characters. However, season 2 has addressed this issue. The feud between Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker has overshadowed the legacy of Sex and the City, but both actors deny any real animosity between them. Cattrall cited pay disparity as one of the reasons she chose not to return to her role as Samantha, but also mentioned personal factors such as her messy divorce and her father's dementia diagnosis. After denying rumors of a feud during the production of two Sex and the City movies, Cattrall was blamed for the cancellation of a potential third film, but she stated that creative differences and an inadequate script were the main issues. She also did not appear in season 1 of the spinoff series And Just Like That... but will make a cameo in season 2.

Spoiler Alert: This review contains spoilers from “A Hundred Years Ago,” the eighth episode of Season 2 of “And Just Like That,” now streaming on Max.
I was as skeptical as anyone when it became clear that Aidan was returning to “And Just Like That.”
The “Sex and the City” character, Carrie’s other great love and one who, in his status as an obvious second choice to Big, wasn’t really so great, seemed to have run out of dramatic possibility a while ago. His appearance in “Sex and the City 2,” with a credibility-straining chance meeting in Abu Dhabi, seemed only to be happening to cast into relief what worked, and what didn’t, in Carrie’s marriage. Aidan’s own qualities as anything other than not-Big didn’t meaningfully enter the story.

I know I implied as much last month, but it’s looking pretty grim out there. There’s a lingering heat wave engulfing the greater United States, and it’s not even August. Twitter is coming for our bank accounts (again), while doing its best impression of a porn app. Plus, Aidan has returned — Aidan! Did “And Just Like That” learn nothing from “Sex and the City 2”?! My goodness, people. One of the biggest movies of the summer is about the father of the atomic bomb, and we, as a people, are still running eyes-wide-open into calamities? Just curb global carbon emissions, let us tweet in peace, and stop trying to make Carrie end up with an emotional nincompoop! Come on! It’s not that hard!
But I digress. This August, Netflix is doing its part to ease our path to death’s cool doorstep by releasing one (1) sweet summer rom-com,...

“And Just Like That” showrunner Michael Patrick King told John Corbett he had to lose weight before shooting Aidan’s return on Max’s “Sex and the City” spin-off’s second season.
King says it wasn’t about aesthetics, per se, but about story and part of a makeover to make his return for the show make sense.
“We cut his hair we took the turquoise jewelry away, we told him he had to be rock-hard when he came back,” King said on the “And Just Like That… The Writers Room” podcast this week.
And what was Corbett’s response?
“He was eating fried chicken when I told him,” King recalled, “and he dropped the fried chicken on the plate and fell down in the booth that we were sitting in and said, ‘I knew I was a fatty.’ And then he came back rock-hard with short hair.”

Sarah Jessica Parker was “excited” when she first learned John Corbett’s Aidan Shaw would be returning to the world of “Sex and the City” on Max’s hit spin-off series “And Just Like That.”
“I was especially excited, probably in large part, because I just love working with John Corbett so much,” Parker told TheWrap in an interview conducted ahead of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. “We just think he is very special and brings so much more — always — than what’s even written.”
Parker, an executive producer on the series, first learned of Corbett’s return in a preseason meeting with “And Just Like That” showrunner and executive producer, Michael Patrick King. Typically, King would pitch Parker on what he wants to do three or four months before the writers meet. These meetings focused on storylines specific to her character Carrie, the season’s overall theme and other actors’ storylines.

Spoiler alert! If you haven’t watched season 2, episode 6 of “And Just Like That”, proceed with caution.
A bomb cyclone storm, a condom scavenger hunt, two emotional breakups, and one crucial email dominated Thursday’s episode of the “Sex and the City” Max reboot, “And Just Like That”.
Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) proved she’s still working girl goals as she kicked off the episode rearranging her laptop in the perfect configuration for a Zoom interview only to have the interviewer ask her favorite lip color when she was trying to discuss her new memoir about the death of her husband, Mr. Big (Chris Noth). Thankfully the computer “literally leapt to its death” so she could get out of that nightmare.
At a girls night dinner with Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), Charlotte York Goldenblatt (Kristin Davis) and Nya Wallace (Karen Pittman), the subject of Carrie’s past loves comes up.

[Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers for “And Just Like That” Season 2, through Episode 5, “Trick or Treat.”]
When “And Just Like That…” premiered, it got to the point, fast. Big (Chris Noth) was dead before the end of the first hour, and Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) was alone again, with only her untold millions to comfort her. Killing off a key character or two is a standard practice when it comes to revivals, implemented in everything from “Night Court” to “Will & Grace,” but “And Just Like That…” made Big’s death the series’ center. The first season was clearly about Carrie grieving her loss, finding a fresh path, and walking into that uncertain future.
When it comes to similar purpose, all Season 2 can muster is uncertainty. At times, it feels like an extension of Season 1 — aka, it’s still all about Big, or, at least, it’s still all about Carrie grieving and finding her way forward.

We've certainly had no shortage of being let down by good 'ol Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) over her years on Sex and the City, but given the 11 years that have passed since Sex and the City 2 premiered in theaters, it's safe to say that we're owed a bit of a redemption story from her. Though with an entire season of And Just Like That... and four episodes of Season 2 under our belts, why are we still asking for her to have a plot line outside of romance?...

Nixon — who plays Miranda Hobbes in the much-loved show — told Sunday Times Style that Cattrall won’t be in the show a lot.

Carrie Bradshaw was a fashionista long before Sex and the City fans met her in 1998. The character was 32 during season 1 of the series and liked to play with mixing designer pieces and vintage finds. She played with bold colors and prints in her clothes, shoes, and handbags. As she aged throughout the series, her style changed, too. Now, 25 years later, Carrie is back in the Max reboot, And Just Like That… While she’s still fashion-forward in her 50s, her style has changed again. One thing, however, has stayed the same. HBO Max’s And Just Like That… season 2 cast brings back plenty of Sex and the City’s original cast and characters, along with several new, lovable additions to the And Just Like That cast. And Just Like That is one of HBO Max’s first official TV show revivals, following 2021’s divisive Gossip Girl reboot. The first season of And Just Like That's streaming 10-episode half-hour series takes the original main characters back to New York City for a new chapter of their lives, navigating relationships and family in their 50s instead of their 30s. Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) was full of surprises in the first season of “And Just Like That.” When she wasn’t dismissing her marriage with Steve (David Eigenberg), she was falling head-over-heels for Che (Sara Ramirez). But there is one messy aspect of Miranda’s life that she’s sorted out in Season 2: her alcohol dependency.

Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte York Goldenblatt (Kristin Davis) are back along with their ragtag group of both old and new friends. And Just Like That returns for its second season after its first picked up more than 10 years since we last saw the ladies in 2010’s Sex and the City 2. The first season carried on the story without the comical genius of Kim Cattrall as the incomparable Samantha Jones and did a fairly decent job of bringing everyone’s favorite '00s group into the modern world of gender fluidity, dick pics, and death by Peloton. The first season relied mainly on its novelty, powered through by the nostalgia and excitement of seeing the lives of characters that had been left to the post-credits imagination.

Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis all returned to reprise their iconic Sex and the City characters in And Just Like That…, the Max reboot of the famed series. Kim Cattrall was not asked to return to the series, much to the chagrin of fans. While fans of the original series felt her absence, it wasn’t surprising that she didn’t return for the reboot’s first season. While her time as Samantha Jones made Cattrall’s career what it is, the experience was a negative one for the actor. Cattrall has spent years badmouthing her time on the show and her co-stars. Parker, Nixon, and Davis have largely stayed quiet until recently. Now that Cattrall has filmed a single cameo for the show’s second season, reportedly at the urging of an HBO executive, her former co-stars are becoming more vocal. Cynthia Nixon, in particular, opted to throw some serious shade.

In a surprising turn of events, Kim Cattrall will return to the Sex and the City universe for a cameo. The actor, famous for portraying Samantha Jones in the original series, long insisted she was done with the character. She’s spoken incredibly negatively about her time on the set and her co-star, Sarah Jessica Parker. Cattrall wasn’t even invited to take part in the Max reboot initially. Now Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, has gotten involved and somehow convinced Cattrall to return for a single scene. Some fans believe Cattral is doing it for the fan base; the actor’s critics think she agreed to appear out of spite. Despite why she’s returning, there will surely be feelings about it. But where did the drama all begin? Sarah Jessica Parker shared what she thinks caused the one-sided fight.
