  • When Bella (Kristen Stewart) cuts her finger while at her 18th birthday party at the Cullens' house and bloodlust overcomes Jasper (Jackson Rathbone), Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) decides that his presence in Bella's life is a danger to her, so he and his family leave Forks. During his absence, Bella learns that she can evoke him psychically whenever she does anything dangerous, so she takes up motorcycles and cliff-diving. Her childhood friend Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) offers her a modicum of solace...until Jake develops a secret of his own and also ends his friendship with her.

  • New Moon is a novel by American author Stephenie Meyer. It is second in a series of four books, collectively known as the Twilight Saga. In order, the books are Twilight (2005), New Moon (2006), Eclipse (2007), and Breaking Dawn (2008). The other three books have also been made into movies: Twilight (2008) (2008), The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010) (2010), The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 (2011) (2011), and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 (2012) (2012). The screenplay for New Moon was written by American screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, who also wrote the screenplay for the first movie.

  • Filming started in March 2009 in Italy and in Vancouver, Canada. According to an article published by Oregon Buisness, they didn't film in Portland due to the budget, i.e., filming in Canada is cheaper.

  • Yes. At the premiere for the movie Push (2009) (2009), Ashley Greene (Alice Cullen) even stated that the yellow Porsche would be in New Moon. (Source here.)

  • He may have moved around but, when he phoned the Swan residence, he was calling from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The famous statue of Christ the Redeemer can be seen outside his window.

  • It's Jake, the only werewolf with the light golden brown fur. In the book, the heart attack suffered by Harry Clearwater (Graham Greene) was the result of natural causes.

  • The Volturi did not kill Bella for knowing about vampires while she was human because Alice's vision was enough to appease Aro (Michael Sheen) for the time being. That's why he gave the stipulation that they better not wait long before changing her. He was giving them a second chance, partially because he was curious to see what powers she might develop after her transformation, considering he couldn't access her mind as a weak human.

  • Bella and Edward return to Forks where the Cullens have also returned to their house. Edward apologizes for leaving, and Bella, remembering their promise to the Volturi, jokingly replies that, after she's changed, he won't be able to get rid of her. Edward refuses to contemplate the thought of turning her and says that there are always ways of hiding things from the Volturi. To force the issue, Bella asks the Cullens to vote on whether or not to change her. Everyone votes "yes" except for Rosalie (Nikki Reed), who votes "no" because she wishes someone would have voted "no" for her when she was turned. Later, as Edward drives Bella home, they are stopped in the road by Jake. He warns him of a key point in the treaty between the Quilutes and the Cullens that says if any of the vampires bites a human, the truce is over. He begs Bella not to become vampire because of what the tribe will do to her. Bella asks Jake not to make her choose because, if she must choose, it will be Edward. "It's always been him," she admits. Angered at Edward, Jake morphs into his wolf form and goes after Edward. Bella steps in between them and warns them both that, should either of them hurt the other, they will also be hurting her. Jake backs down and runs off. Edward asks Bella to give him five years before changing her, but Bella doesn't want to wait. "Then I have one condition if you want me to do it myself," Edward adds. "Marry me." Bella gasps.

  • Stephenie Meyer explained: The term "new moon" refers to the phase of the moon opposite a full moon. It is when the sun is on the opposite side of the moon from us and thus the bright side of the moon is not visible from earth. This is the darkest kind of night. "New Moon" is the darkest period of Bella's life.

  • "The Twilight Saga" was added as name recognition for movie-goers who are not familiar with the series.

  • The second part of the franchise, New Moon, includes almost 7.5 minutes of additional footage which, however, does not really offer anything new and was already included in the deleted scenes feature of the old DVDs and Blu-rays. Thus, there are a few new plot scenes which are rather something nice to have than mandatory.
