Fiery New 'Ghost Rider 2' Poster after the Film Flames Out with Fanboys

12 December 2011 10:02 PM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Columbia decided five years was long enough and was hoping fans would forget how bad the first Ghost Rider comic book adaptation was, which featured Nicolas Cage as stunt cyclist Johnny Blaze, a man who sells his soul to the devil and is in turn cursed as Beelzebub's bounty hunter. The 2007 feature pulled in almost $116 million domestically and over $228 million worldwide so why not give it a shot? For Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance they brought in Crank duo Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, brought back Cage and added Ciaran Hinds, Idris Elba and Johnny Whitworth to the cast and set a February 17, 2012 release date where the fiery skull would wield his chain of flame in 3D. Oh boy! Get ready! The first trailer featured the titular character peeing fire and fans were on board. What could go wrong? Well, apparently actually showing the full film appears to have been a problem. »

Trailer Watch: Joss Whedon's "Cabin in the Woods" Finally Hits Screens in April

12 December 2011 12:56 PM, PST | Thompson on Hollywood | See recent Thompson on Hollywood news »

The new trailer for Joss Whedon's horror-thriller "The Cabin in the Woods" dropped this week, giving a glimpse at the sci fi scribe's take on the classic friends-trapped-in-the-woods horror plotline. Whedon co-wrote the film with "Cloverfield" writer Drew Goddard, who directs. The picture, originally scheduled for early 2010 release, had been in MGM limbo since it was shot back in 2009. The restructured company is taking it out to theaters next April via Lionsgate. The trailer looks like vintage Whedon: mysterious government men in suits speak cryptic lines like, "The lambs have passed through the gate. They have come to the killing floor." »

‘Cabin in the Woods’ Screened in Austin Over the Weekend at Bnat

12 December 2011 8:58 AM, PST | Destroy the Brain | See recent Destroy the Brain news »

It is safe to say that I am clearly green with envy.  Besides the fact that Austin is home to some amazing restaurants, stores and people, the city also hosts three large events for film geeks each year. The first is SXSW.  The second being Fantastic Fest. The third and final event is Butt-Numb-a-Thon.  This final event may seem like an odd title to some, but it is a fitting name for the much-coveted geek event.  Each year, Harry Knowles (Ain’t It Cool News.com) screens films at the Alamo Drafthouse for 24 hours in honor of his birthday.  The tickets for the event always sell -out due to the fact that Harry has been known for showing a mix between classic cinema and world premieres of highly anticipated films.  This year was no different.  With a lineup that included Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, »

Movie Poster Round-Up: The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spider-Man, Men in Black 3

11 December 2011 9:14 AM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

We've got some new movie posters for you this weekend, including a pretty badass teaser poster for The Dark Knight Rises. If you ask me, it's lending more credibility to the rumours that Batman will actually die, although it could also just be playing up the fact that Bane is "The Man Who Broke the Bat." In addition, we've also got a new teaser poster for The Amazing Spider-Man, a strange one for Will Ferrell's Spanish-language comedy Casa de Mi Padre and that mysterious one-sheet for Joss Whedon's The Cabin in the Woods. The marketing team behind The Darkest Hour clearly took some notes from the District 9 viral campaign as they have released a handful of very familiar-looking alien warning signs, while the new American Reunion poster attempts to recreate the very first American Pie poster. However, I think my favourites are the Men in Black 3 teaser »

This Week In Trailers: Jiro Dreams of Sushi, A Separation, Lads and Jockeys, The Kick, Redline

11 December 2011 9:00 AM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: I celebrate all levels of trailers and hopefully this column will satisfactorily give you a baseline of what beta wave I’m operating on, because what better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising? Some of the best authors will tell you that writing a short story is a lot harder than writing a long one, that you have to weigh every sentence. What better medium to see how this theory plays itself out beyond that than with movie trailers? Jiro Dreams of Sushi Trailer Is it nutty that this is the kind of trailer that makes me love documentaries as an art form? No »
