Opens: March 23rd 2011
Cast: Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster, Anton Yelchin, Jennifer Lawrence
Director: Jodie Foster
Summary: A depressed toy company CEO with a failed marriage starts to wear a beaver puppet on his hand as a form of therapy, much to the initial bemusement of his family. He soon begins talking only through the character.
Analysis: This time last year, excitement was quietly brewing for "The Beaver". Gibson's drunken tirade a few years before hand wasn't forgotten, but enough time had passed that this looked to be the year of a potential comeback for the actor.
The thriller remake "Edge of Darkness" and this were his first on screen roles in ten years, 'Beaver' is also his "Maverick" co-star Foster's return to the director's chair fifteen years after her last feature. The script topped the 2008 Black List and scored rave reviews for its blend of sophisticated humor and sad pathos, »

The events that occurred in last season’s explosive finale of ABC’s hit medical drama Grey’s Anatomy will certainly have an emotional impact on all of the characters’ lives. After a shooting at Seattle Grace Hospital that resulted in the deaths of two doctors, Season 7 will explore how everyone has been changed by the trauma, both personally and professionally.
In Season 7, Dr. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) will pretty much be starting over, as even his home life will be changing, due to Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) opening her home to the doctors who lost their friends and roommates in the shoot-out. During a recent interview, actor Jesse Williams talked about what an honor it is to officially be a series regular this season, how bittersweet it was to lose some of his co-stars last season, and his initial reaction when he realized that anyone could be expendable on the show. »

Joss Whedon's fun-sounding 'The Cabin in the Woods' has had nothing but delay after delay. The movie's in the can but has since been through a number of release date changes. Originally scheduled for Janaury 2010 it was put on the back burner due to the decision to get the movie converted to 3D (which reportedly never even happened!). It was then given a January 2011 date but now it seems even that's a pipedream. News has come that the Drew Goddard helmed project has been removed completely from the MGM release schedule. Stars Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Jesse Williams, Chris Hemsworth, Fran Kranz, Kristen Connolly, Anna Hutchison, Brian J. White and Amy Acker (below) will just have to wait a little longer before they attend any premieres of this baby! 'The Cabin in the Woods' is a twisted and unusual take on the familiar 'cabin in the woods' formula. »

Entertainment Weekly caught up with J.J. Abrams and Joss Whedon at the San Diego Comic-Con where they both took turns talking about their upcoming projects. Whedon, who announced he would be directing The Avengers movie, talked about the 3D transfer of The Cabin In The Woods (hilarious stuff), while Abrams was pretty tight-lipped on his Steven Spielberg collaboration Super 8. More inside. After Abrams joked, "I tried to wedge my way into Cabin [in the Woods],", Whedon talked a bit about the 3D conversion and how they might make it the only horror film Not in 3D. He explained to EW that the 3D thing came because MGM looked at the schedule and saw every horror movie was going to be in 3D for the next couple of years. While it still might happen, they're actually thinking of making Cabin the only horror movie that's Not in 3D! More »

In a new article over at the Hollywood Reporter chatting about MGM's recent hunt for a new CEO, they reveal that the studio could be pushing The Cabin in the Woods out of the January 14, 2011 date. Originally slated for release last year, the Drew Goddard directed creature feature was delayed to post-covert it to 3D. Chris Hemsworth, Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Kristen Connolly, Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz, Jesse Williams, Brian White all star. In other news, Screen Gems has bumped back the release of their post-converted 3D horror Priest from March to a May 13, 2011 date. The film is an adaptation of a TokyoPop comic book, the story is set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampire and follows a warrior priest who turns against the church to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece. »

News comes to us today from THR (via The Playlist) that MGM is once again causing problems for upcoming films. First the delated Bond 23, then pushed Del Toro away from The Hobbit, Red Dawn delayed, and now we learn than Joss Whedon’s The Cabin In The Woods will likely not make its January 2011 release. MGM has done nothing with marketing, no trailers at all. THR assumes “it will be pushed to later release dates.”
MGM really has to get their shit together soon because this is getting ridiculous. There isn’t much to go on but a studio insider as commented on the problems going on at MGM. He was quoted as saying:
“We’d be sitting in a meeting with all these problems and $4 billion of debt, and we’d be talking about that night’s Lakers tickets. There was always two MGMs — the old MGM and the Mary Parent MGM. »

We're still waiting for an official synopsis beyond "a twisted and unusual take on the familiar 'cabin in the woods' formula, but thanks to the MPAA we now have a little bit more of an idea of what to expect when Joss Whedon's The Cabin in the Woods hits theatres next year.
Per Box Office Mojo The Cabin in the Woods has received an R rating for "strong bloody horror violence and gore, language, drug use, and some sexuality/nudity." Woo hoo! It looks like the film's co-star Amy Acker's recent comment that "there's a lot of scary monsters" is right on.
Look for The Cabin in the Woods, directed by Drew Goddard and starring Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Jesse Williams, and Chris Hemsworth, in theaters January 14, 2011 (Mlk weekend) in, of course, 3D.
Hey, Joss -- Seems like it's about time for a new poster, don't ya think? »

The actress, who has worked with Whedon in the past, co-stars with Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Kristen Connolly and Chris Hemsworth. "It's about a cabin in the woods," she adds. Who knows what the fate of the film will be once the MGM auction is all sorted out, yet we've still got to keep our fingers crossed for the January 14, 2011 release of The Cabin In The Woods (now in 3-D!), Drew Goddard's directing debut that is said to provide a new twist on a classic scenario -- in this case the young-people-stranded-in-the-woods horror trope. The filmmakers have been tight-lipped, but co-star Amy Acker let slip a little nugget of gold. "There's a lot of scary monsters," she revealed giving weight to the recent rumors that the project is actually a creature feature. Unfortunately we won't know more until closer to the film's release (assuming it actually happens). Chris Hemsworth, Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Kristen Connolly, Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz, Jesse Williams, Brian White all star. »

It's not news to me - because I've had to keep my mouth shut about everything I know about Drew Goddard's The Cabin in the Woods (written by Joss Whedon) in fear that the studio will send masked men to kill my loved ones - but you might like to know the film is indeed a creature feature. Horror flicks, exploitation films and the 'Jackass' gang will take the 3-D revolution past 'Avatar' — but are audiences ready?

"Avatar" has rewritten the record books, "Alice in Wonderland" brought in big bank, and "How to Train Your Dragon" is the latest in a long line of family-friendly 3-D movies to make easy tens of millions of dollars. But as a recent article in USA Today expressed, many believe that the real test of this new filmmaking movement will be rooted as it reconnects with its origins: genre films.
Back in the day, 3-D was the realm of the obscure, exploitative and unabashedly fun. From the soft-porn of "The Stewardesses" to the scares of "House of Wax," the gimmickry of early Three Stooges shorts to bad '80s slasher sequels, genre films loved 3-D when nobody else would. »
