‘Penny Dreadful’ Leads Nominations for BAFTA Television Craft Awards

London — Psychological thriller “Penny Dreadful” leads the race for BAFTA’s Television Craft Awards with five nominations.

There are four nominations each for “The Honorable Woman,” starring Maggie Gyllenhaal, and documentary “Life & Death Row,” while “Strictly Come Dancing,” “Peaky Blinders” and “Da Vinci’s Demons” each received three nominations.

In the week that James Corden made his bow on “The Late Late Show” in the U.S., he and Mathew Baynton picked up a BAFTA nomination in the comedy writer category for “The Wrong Mans.”

Among free-tv networks, BBC led the chart with 46 nominations, while Channel 4 had 13, and ITV had 10, while pay TV operator Sky had six.

There were two nominations for “Ripper Street,” marking the first BAFTA nominations for a program shown exclusively on Amazon’s streaming platform, Prime Instant Video.

BBC’s Susan Hogg to Lead Drama at Studio Lambert as it Targets U.S. Scripted Market

London — Susan Hogg, a senior drama executive producer at the BBC, is set to join Studio Lambert as head of drama and president, scripted programming.

Hogg, who has been at the BBC for 14 years, has overseen a broad range of series including “Five Daughters,” “Lark Rise to Candleford,” “The Paradise,” “Survivors,” “Waking the Dead” and “The Fades.”

Hogg was previously head of drama at Granada Television, where she set up ITV series “Grafters” and “A&E.” Before that she was one of the founding executives of United Productions, where she oversaw the creation of “Where the Heart Is,” “Touching Evil” and “No Child of Mine,” which won a BAFTA.

Studio Lambert chief executive, Stephen Lambert, signed a new five-year deal with All3Media two weeks ago that provided the funding to launch a drama department at Studio Lambert. The company formerly focused on unscripted shows like “Undercover Boss.”
