I lay awake for some time thinking about Eleanor. She was, I decided, hard to explain. I still didn't know what she would do in any given situation. I didn't know what she really knew about me - or what she would do with what she knew. Killing her would have been a very stupid thing to have done. There was, I decided as I turned over to address myself to sleep, like the suburb around me, quite a lot of mileage left in her yet.
