Storyline

Barney's recent behavior makes the gang believe he is hiding a girlfriend from them. When they follow him to what they think is a rendezvous with her, they end up at the home of Loretta Stinson, Barney's mother, where they meet Barney's wife and son, Betty and Tyler. In reality, "Betty" and "Tyler" are both actors who Barney hired. Margaret has been playing the role of Betty for seven years. To grant Loretta her dying wish of her sons being with someone they loved - Loretta who was on her deathbed at the time (and who obviously survived that ordeal) - Barney hired Margaret to play his fiancée to fulfill that wish. When Margaret, going off script, stated that she was pregnant, Barney eventually had to produce a son Tyler, who in his current incarnation is played by Grant. The already convoluted plot is made even more so when everyone catches Ted making out with "Betty". Ted has to use some of the improvisation skills he learned from actress Margaret to get them all out of this mess. ... Written by Huggo

Trivia

When Loretta recount the story of how promiscuous she is Marshall exclaims; "Barney's Mom.." while Lily corrected him by saying her name "Loretta". This was an intake from Alyson Hannigan's previous movie "American Pie" where the role of the "MILF" is only known as "Stifler's Mom" not her real name hence the joke in Marshall's sputtering after hearing Loretta's story. Quotes

Lily Aldrin: This is crazy. You actually cast your own son?
Barney Stinson: For a while, I got by borrowing/babysitting my neighbor's baby. And this one Christmas, when my mom was plowed on eggnog, I got away with a bag of flour and a Chuckie mask. But eventually, I had to hold auditions.
[Flashback]
Barney Stinson: Four, eight... thirteen, Stay. The rest of you may go.
Stage Mom: You said that if I slept with you, my son would get the part.
Barney Stinson: Apparently, I'm a better actor than your kid.

Another 10/10 episode
31 December 2014 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

Another great episode of "How I Met Your Mother" with Barney Stinson front and centre.

Plot In A Paragraph: When Barney starts acting strangely (he didn't hit on some drunk blondes in Maclarens and Marshall over heard him saying he loves someone on the phone) the gang suspect he has a secret girlfriend and follow him, however they are surprised to find him with his mother, and even more surprised to meet his wife and son.

It was fun seeing Barney say that when he is watching the Karate Kid, he roots for the bully Johnny. I also cracked up when he said "call me crazy, but child actors were a lot better in the 80's"

Whenever Neil Patrick Harris is prominent in an episode it always makes the episode that bit better and raises the overall quality of the episode.
