Storyline

The storm of the century has hit New York in early 2009. The snowfall is supposed to last for three days, meaning that the city is at a virtual standstill for that long. Ted and Barney are supposed to meet two out- of-town college girls at MacLaren's, but without the girls' phone numbers they can only sit there and wait to see if they show up. Carl wants to close the bar early to volunteer at a shelter, and Ted and Barney convince him to let them run the bar while he's gone. The start of their stint has them living their dream as they've talked about buying a bar and never having last call. Their dates arrive, but the night doesn't end up as they envisioned. Meanwhile, one of Marshall and Lily's rituals is that whenever one goes out of town, he or she brings a 6-pack back from the visited city and the other meets her/him at the airport with a chauffeur's sign. But they decide that they've matured past such things and won't carry out this ritual upon Lily's return from Seattle. But ... Written by Huggo

Trivia

The patch on Ted's arm is a brand logo for the EVER clothing company; this logo appears several times through the series. See more »

Goofs

Near the beginning of the episode, there is a shot from outer space showing the storm. The storm shown is rotating clockwise. That would be a high-pressure system and is associated with fair weather. A system that would produce a storm would rotate counter-clockwise around low pressure. See more »

Quotes

Robin Scherbatsky: I still say this is stupid. What happened to, "As we mature, the relationship matures with us?"
Marshall Eriksen: That's just something Lily read in Psychology Today. Alright, she read it in Cosmo. Alright, I read it in Cosmo. Alright, it was CosmoGirl!

Another 10/10 Episode
29 December 2014 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

A second 10/10 episode in a row. Top of the cap to "How I Met Your Mother" for achieving this, as not many shows do.

Plot In A Paragraph: During a historic three day snow blizzard, Ted and Barney get an opportunity to run their own bar, a dream they have shared for a while, when Carl gives them the keys to lock up Maclarens when their dates arrive. Meanwhile Marshall and Lily try to beat the odds and continue one of their cherished traditions, which is meeting ea h other at the airport when one of them has been away.

The "Cocktail" inspired bar scenes of Barmey and Ted are simply comedy gold, meanwhile the Marshall and Lily story is very, very sweet. To put it simply, it's just great TV and I never tire of this episode.
