Stephen Dorff promises naked muscle and leather in Immortals

30 December 2010 8:30 AM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

The Mythology of the ancient world is enjoying a resurgence with such films as 300; Clash of the Titans; its upcoming sequel Wrath of the Titans; Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief; and director Tarsem Singh's Immortals, due out on November 11, 2011.

Singh previously directed The Cell and The Fall, as well as being an assistant director on David Fincher's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Immortals - previously known as War of the Gods and then Dawn of War before settling on its current title - sees Greek warrior Theseus (Henry Cavill) battle evil King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) who wants to unleash the Titans (elder gods imprisoned within Mount Tartarus since the dawn of time) to destroy mankind and annihilate the Olympian deities.

Also starring in the film is Stephen Dorff as a slave called Stavros; he joins a cast that also includes Twilight's Kellan Lutz as Poseidon, Luke Evans »

For those anxious to see more of Stephen Dorff after his critically acclaimed role in Sofia Coppola's "Somewhere," you won't have to wait too long to see him back on the big screen. Dorff's next film is the buzzworthy "Immortals," directed by visionary filmmaker Tarsem Singh ("The Fall," "The Cell"), which also stars Mickey Rourke, Kellan Lutz, Henry Cavill and Freida Pinto. When MTV News caught up with Dorff recently, we asked him for his take on the film.

"So much of that movie is going to be done in post [production]," he said, adding that he has no idea what it will look like when it's finished. "I could end up having horns coming out of my head, »

Stephen Dorff Talks Tarsem's Swords & Sandals Epic 'Immortals' Starring Henry Cavill

22 December 2010 7:21 AM, PST | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Calls His Character Stavros The Han Solo To Cavill's Luke Skywalker His role in Sofia Coppola's "Somewhere" has been described a Mickey Rourke-esque revitalization, but one of the first tests Stephen Dorff's star power and quality faces will be his role in Tarsem's swords and sandals epic "Immortals" alongside the likes of Henry Cavill, Freida Pinto and Rourke himself. And, from the sounds of it, Dorff has a fairly meaty and potentially scene-stealing role. "Henry Cavill's younger than me, so he plays, like, the Luke Skywalker," Dorff told Vulture. "Freida Pinto plays the oracle who becomes the love interest to… »

Now, Deadline reports that Charlize Theron (Young Adult, Mad Max: Fury Road) is currently in negotiations to play the Evil Queen in Universal’s film, which may star Michael Fassbender (Jane Eyre, A Dangerous Method) as The Huntsman. In addition, THR reports that actress (and granddaughter of Elvis), Riley Keough (The Runaways) is at the top of Universal’s short list to play the title role of Snow White.

Freida Pinto loved watching men wearing short skirts on the set of 'Immortals'. The Indian actress enjoyed seeing a gender reversal with all the ''eye candy'' on the set of the movie- where she got to play a Greek goddess surrounded by hunky male slaves. She said: ''It was interesting to be in a film where the men were objectified and the women could just enjoy themselves. There are no fewer than three Snow White projects in the works and one of the them is set up with Relativity Media. The Brothers Grimm: Snow White (the working title) is described as a dark, edgy twist on the classic fairy tale and Relativity Media CEO Ryan Kavanaugh says he's found the perfect director to helm the project.

In an exclusive interview with Kavanaugh at the Skyline premiere, I got an update on Relativity Media's Snow White film:

What's happening with Snow White?

Ryan Kavanaugh: "Snow White is going to happen. We're starting production actually very soon. Tarsem [Singh] is obviously directing it. And having seen 30 minutes of Immortals, I believe Tarsem is one of the most brilliant visionaries of our time."

He's unique.

Kellan Lutz Has 'Good Time' Being Single

5 November 2010 1:27 AM, PDT | Celebrity Mania | See recent Celebrity Mania news »

Kellan Lutz is seemingly unaffected with his break-up from girlfriend AnnaLynne McCord. Just days after news of their separation was picked up by media, the Emmett Cullen of "Twilight Saga" series is said to be "happy" being single. A friend of him told E! News, adding that the actor won't quickly jump back into a relationship because "he's just having a good time."

Words that Kellan have called it quits with AnnaLynne surfaced after the "90210" beauty was seen getting intimate with male model Aaron O'Connell at a Halloween party recently. While the 25-year-old hasn't confirmed the news himself, a source close to him told E! the break-up indeed took place. The insider further blamed distance as one of the possible factors in their separation.

In another news, Kellan admitted he has no problem taking off his shirt for the cameras. "You know, I've been blessed with genetics and I do like working out, »

Tarsem Singh Confirmed to Direct ‘Snow White’

2 November 2010 6:31 PM, PDT | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

Relativity Media has closed a deal with filmmaker Tarsem Singh to direct an untitled Snow White feature, often referred to as The Brothers Grimm: Snow White.

Melisa Wallack, whose only previous writing credit is Meet Bill, wrote the 3D movie, according to the Wrap, described as an edgy, modernized re-imagining that will follow the Grimms’ original German folk tale.  The story centers on Snow White’s quest to regain control of her father’s kingdom from her evil stepmother with the help of seven dwarves.

Most people — including me — scoffed at Brett Ratner’s “edgy” Snow White when it was first announced, based on his previous offenses behind the camera.  But Ratner and Relativity’s choice is a stellar one that should instantly restore faith in this project.

Tarsem’s distinct visual flourishes and ability to blend fantastical elements with the raw and real make him an inspired hire.  It »

Tarsem Singh Confirmed To Direct New ‘Snow White’ Movie

2 November 2010 11:44 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

There are currently three major adaptations of the classic Snow White fairytale in the works: The first is Snow White and the Huntsman from Universal, which has Johnny Depp attached to star; the second is Disney’s Snow White and the Seven which features the dwarves as Shaolin monks (seriously); and the third is The Brothers Grimm: Snow White.

It was reported last month that commercial director turned feature film director, Tarsem Singh, was offered the Brothers Grimm version of Snow White, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, he has now been confirmed as director.

Following his take on the gods of ancient Greece in Immortals, Singh will re-team with Relativity Media for the Snow White project which will reportedly take things in a different, darker direction than the 1937 Disney animated version (although…
