SGA + Dave Foley = charming
robrosenberger4 July 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Just when you thought there would be no "surprise" episodes as SGA ends its run...this pile of quirk plops into your lap. Rodney takes Jennifer to a physics conference on Earth run by his old rival (Dave Foley - KIDS IN THE HALL, NEWSRADIO), who is about to implement a dangerous idea he doesn't realize he stole from Rodney. 100 of the world's top physicists are suddenly trapped in a compound which is about to freeze solid. Foley is understatedly spot-on funny. Bill Nye and Neil deGrasse Tyson play themselves, plus a credible facsimile of Stephen Hawking rolls by. And a nice little cameo by Gary Jones of SG1. It almost tips into too silly, but the menace (ice lightning, tornadoes) keeps it in line. Jennifer almost dies, then invites Rodney to join the mile-high club. He doesn't fumble the moment.

Funny and entertaining

Warning: Spoilers
The number of times MacKay makes fun of himself, plus Bill Nye "Teaching" a room full of actual scientists, makes this episode one of the funniest written. It was good to almost see Stephen Hawking in there as well.

I love it and have watched it over and over again.

repeat (running out of ideas?
born_of_hellfire-125 November 2008
are the writers running out of ideas? i sure hope not. but doesn't this story seem a little "familiar"? how many others were disappointed with this last episode? now don't get me wrong i LOVE stargate: atlantis, but all they did was take a previous episode and set it on earth now laughing out loud. and all the other scientists equal a second Rodney McKay laughing out loud. loved the idea of freeze lightning, it was an interesting concept. and the tornado effects were neat too. and Dave Foley was a nice addition for a cameo. lol, UM.... 10 LINES HUH? can't wait to see the next episode, and i hope the series lasts for a very very very long time.

Not the best

This was probably the worst episode. To make things worse, Bill Nye was in this episode. He's a terrible actor.

Very Bad
Easygoer102 June 2021
This may be the worst episode in this series. The only redeeming factor is the presence of guest stars Bill Nye and Neil deGrasse Tyson (actual scientists). Unfortunately, they let the writer (Martin Gero) direct it. Even worse, he is alone on the DVD (or BluRay) commentary. Skip this woeful pablum.

Episodes like this kill great TV shows
Mischief81023 August 2023
It wasn't exchange rates or rising production costs that ended Atlantis. It was the declining entertainment value. When you produce great material, you get great ratings, reviews and honors and the show is always profitable. When you start to think that your art can be used to drag public thinking to your point of view, your Saturday Night Live stops being funny, your MTV stops being must see TV and a once great Sci Fi jumps the shark. Sadly, it has been almost 15 years after this episode aired and the lesson still hasn't sunk in. Get back to entertaining us with stuff we'd never expect to encounter in the real world. And we'll keep watching. Keep dragging the real world into our entertainment and we'll stop.
