The Final instalment
12 April 2014 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

It is 1948, the war is over, Italy is preparing for its first post war election and De Luca has been demoted to the Bologna Vice Squad; although that is a step up from what he had been doing after the war. When a man is found hanged in a brothel his superiors consider it a suicide but he isn't so sure. Inevitably his determination to investigate it as a murder brings him into conflict with his superiors. The man might not have been anybody important but dangerous people could be implicated and more people will die before the culprits are identified.

It is a pity that this series was so short but that is better than letting things get stale. This was another quality episode with a good mystery and even though the war had passed the sense of danger was still there. It was good to see some returning characters including De Luca's old comrade Pugliese and the former partisan policeman from the previous episode; not to mention old flame Valaria. As well as a good mystery and political tensions there are also some decent laughs to be had; most notably a scene where he is questioning the prostitutes in a brothel and later when Pugliese takes De Luca home to meet his wife. Overall a good conclusion to this rather different detective series.
