Denzel Washington stands tall in first 'Equalizer' poster

23 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Take heed, evildoers -- here comes "The Equalizer." Denzel Washington casts a long shadow in the simple, classy first poster for the upcoming thriller based on the 1980s TV series of the same name.  Reuniting with his "Training Day" director Antoine Fuqua, Washington plays a former intelligence officer who turns to vigilantism after growing frustrated with corrupt law enforcement. When he lends his expert aid to a teen prostitute ("Kick-Ass' star Chloë Grace Moretz), he finds himself facing down the Russian mob. Check out the poster here: "The Equalizer" is based on the CBS series which starred Edward Woodward and ran from 1985 to 1989. It also had a kick-ass theme song. The new version also stars Marton Csokas, Melissa LeoRobert Wahlberg and Haley Bennett. "The Equalizer" opens September 26. »

Denzel Washington’s The Equalizer Nabs a Poster

16 April 2014 7:42 PM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Denzel Washington is a bad man in director Antoine Fuqua’s “The Equalizer.” It’s a good thing, then, that there are even badder people in need of having their asses kicked, because that’s exactly what Washington’s character will be doing lots of in the upcoming big-screen adaptation of the ’80s TV series of the same name. In the flick, Denzel plays “a former black ops commando who faked his death for a quiet life in Boston. He comes out of his retirement to rescue a young girl, Teri, and finds himself face to face with Russian gangsters.” “Kick-Ass’s” Chloe Moretz will play Teri, the girl in need of saving. Which is amusing given that, well, Moretz played Hit-Girl in the “Kick-Ass” movies, and I don’t think anyone is going to confuse Hit-Girl with someone who needs saving. Anyways, the film co-stars Marton Csokas, Bill Pullman, »

Mark Millar’s ‘Superior’ Becoming A Movie

16 April 2014 5:30 PM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Superior, the comic book series that came from the mind of Mark Millar- the man that gave us Kick-Ass and Wanted- is going to be getting the big screen treatment. Hollywood has seen that adapting Millar’s work has paid off in the past, and now 20th Century Fox has chosen Superior to be the next Millar property to make the jump.

The Hollywood Reporter describes Superior like this:

The comic centers on a popular and athletic 12-year-old boy who loses his social life when he is stricken by multiple sclerosis. One night, an alien monkey grants the boy one wish and he chooses to become his favorite superhero, a Superman-like character named Superior.

After relishing his new life as a hero, the boy discovers that the monkey is actually a demon from Hell and he must sell his soul if he is to remain the powerful hero »

Chloe Moretz leaves her body behind in 'If I Stay' trailer

16 April 2014 11:19 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

After playing social outcasts in "Kick-Ass," "Let Me In" and "Carrie," Chloe Grace Moretz is finally playing a normal teen in "If I Stay." At least, the new trailer for the film starts out that way. Moretz plays a promising young cellist who seems to have it all --  a shot at Julliard, a nice family ("World War Z's" Mireille Enos plays her mom), and a handsome rocker bf played by Jamie Blackley ("Snow White and the Huntsman"). Things take a tragic turn when a car crash sends her into a coma, and triggers an out-of-body experience where she experiences the world from the outside looking in.  Powered by Moretz' perpetually sad-looking face -- and the inclusion of "Say Something" by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera -- the trailer offers the sort of romantic melancholia found in Nicholas Sparks movies, but with a subtly-played supernatural edge.  The »

Should Chloe Grace Moretz Go the Ya Route? Too Late!

16 April 2014 9:08 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Rising starlet (or, in this case, “starlette” might be more appropriate – like a little tiny star, just beginning to shine) Chloe Grace Moretz hasn’t always made the most traditional of choices in her film career, though that’s not to say they’ve been bad choices. Yet the next segment of Mortez’s career, one that is now set to include starring in a multi-film Ya adaptation about a girl in some terrible futuristic settings and situations, looks to be going in a direction that’s not just traditional – it’s expected – and that’s not necessarily a good thing. Moretz certainly started off in an expected enough way, as her younger years were spent with small appearances on television shows and a series of horror films (including The Amityville Horror and Wicked Little Things), before turning her charms on for something a little offbeat. Moretz co-starred as the sassy younger sister in (500) Days of Summer »

Matthew Vaughn to Produce Mark Millar’s ‘Superior’ Comic Book Movie

16 April 2014 6:08 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Although comic book writer Mark Millar has contributed many times to long-running series about more traditional superheroes like The Fantastic Four and Ultimate X-Men, he’s probably better known by mainstream audiences for putting a spin on the traditional comic book movie in Kick-Ass, the adaptation of his graphic novel about an average teenage boy who one day decides to put on a costume and become a superhero.

Another well-known limited series from Millar is Superior, a seven-issue comic about a 12 year-old boy with multiple sclerosis who is offered one wish by an alien monkey, and opts to take on the form of a superhero that he idolizes. He then finds out that the alien monkey was ...

Watch the Very Sad If I Stay Trailer Starring Chloë Moretz

15 April 2014 10:19 PM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

Here's a trailer for yet another very depressing Ya movie, called If I Stay. The film is based on Gayle Forman's 2009 novel and stars Chloë Moretz (Kick-Ass, Carrie) as a young woman who falls into a coma after a car crash that kills her entire family. She then proceeds to have  an out-of-body experience, during which she must decide whether to continue living or slip away and die. So, y'know, just the usual coming-of-age stuff. Don't worry, though: The film is set for an August 22nd release, which gives you two and a half months to recover from The Fault in Our Stars. »

Vaughn has a long history with Millar's Hollywood adaptations, dating back to his time helming "Kick-Ass." Fox Finds Superior

A few years ago, we sat down with Kick-Ass creator Mark Millar to get the lowdown on some of his other developing comics projects. Among them was Superior, which Millar told us he was putting together as a film deal even as he wrapped up work on the book. Things have been quiet on the film front since then, aside from some talk of regular Millar collaborator Matthew Vaughn producing any movie version. Cut to today, and 20th Century Fox has grabbed the rights to the title. That Fox would land Superior isn’t much of a shock: Millar has been involved behind the scenes with the studio on various comic book properties, working alongside the likes of Simon Kinberg and Vaughn himself. Plus, the studio is bringing out another of the writer’s titles, The Secret Service, with Vaughn calling the shots and Colin Firth starring. We got a »
