The final case for Creegan and the OSC
Tweekums28 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
These comments refer to both parts of this two-episode case not just episode two.

Creegan and Taylor are still dealing with the loss of Rivers when his replacement, Martin Simmons, arrives he isn't exactly made to feel welcome. They soon have other concerns though as they must investigate an unpleasant series of murders… somebody has been burning people alive. The first victim is found in a disused mental hospital… a hospital that was closed following a serious fire. This lead the team to suspect that the killer may be a former patient. Taylor goes to France to get an insight into the killer's motives by talking to a man there who has been jailed for similar crimes. Creegan talks to a couple of men who were involved with the original hospital fire but soon thinks they weren't involved in the killings. Further investigation shows a later victim had fostered two children, a boy and a girl, in the late sixties. It isn't long before the team are convinced that one of these now grownup children is the killer… but will they find them before they kill again?

This is a solid final case for the team although watching it I assume it wasn't intended to be the last story in the series; the case is obviously solved but there is no 'big ending' to suggest that there will be no more. As with previous cases the murders are somewhat disturbing although anybody likely to be excessively bothered by it will probably have stopped watching the show some time ago. The case is interesting; the killer is far from obvious but as the end approaches it is possible for the viewer to have a good idea who did it before it is explicitly stated. The finale is more than a little melodramatic with Creegan deliberately making himself very vulnerable while confronting the killer; this does seem a little over the top but not enough to spoil the episode. Overall this is a pretty solid episode; it is just a shame that it had to be the last.
