- The underwater world in 3-D has become Jean-Jacques Mantello's domain, you've probably seen or heard one of his following films: Sharks 3D, Ocean Wonderland 3D or Dolphins and Whales 3D: Tribes of the Ocean. Word was that his latest feature OceanWorld 3D (technically his first feature length docu) was one of the more alluring titles from the Cannes Film Festival market this year. Perhaps it was the seven years of production, and 200 hours of footage (it probably takes snip-its of the same shoots from above mentioned docs) collected in the wild and in 3D that made it a no-brainer purchase for Disney's new nature and wildlife documentary label Disneynature. The label grabbed the rights to distribute the film for North American audiences. Variety reports that Disneynature has nabbed the rights to distribute OceanWorld 3D in North America and Mexico.
The Documentary takes audiences through Australia's Great Barrier Reef, Argentina's Peninsula Valdez and Mexico's Roca Partida Island through the eyes of a sea turtle. People are calling this the first feature-length nature documentary film that was shot and released entirely in 3-D.
Disney has no release date for the film as of yet but it will start screening in France and Russia in August.
"This is exactly the kind of film that Disneynature is striving to make," stated Jean-Francois Camilleri the executive vice president-general manager for Disneynature.

Disneynature has acquired North American and Mexican distribution rights to the underwater film "OceanWorld 3D," which promises to be the first feature-length nature documentary filmed and released in 3-D.
This deal marks the first collaboration between Disneynature and 3D Entertainment, a company founded in 2001 to produce story-driven 3-D experiences for audiences of all ages.
"OceanWorld," a presentation by Jean-Michel Cousteau, son of the legendary Jacques-Yves Cousteau, was directed and produced, respectively, by veteran filmmakers Jean-Jacques and Francois Mantello. They have made such water-themed 3-D movies as "Sharks 3D," "Ocean Wonderland 3D" and "Dolphins and Whales 3D: Tribes of the Ocean."
The 85-minute film premiered at Cannes last month. It will be released theatrically in France and Russia in August; its North American unveiling will come later.
