Let It Snow (#15.9)

Finally a great episode, that was great not just because they brought us a strongly loved character from earlier seasons.

This episode only had characters from current time, but they were great to watch. I really liked the story of Dr. Morris and Dr. Banfield being stuck at their conference. Archie was his usual fun self and Cate really surprised us by being fun herself. This is how I would start liking her. Of course it was a moment of being weak because of what makes her sad. But it was very well done and acted.

Alex being in trouble and so close to death right before the end of the episode was a pretty good thing as well. I feel bad for Tony as it wasn't his fault at all, but it is very interesting to see how this will end now

Wrong goof

I'm the goofs section it says: "Toward the end of the episode, when Sam leaves the rest room, the words "Ladies Room" are visible painted on the door. If she's exiting, the words should appear backwards." The camera was pointing at the mirror in the restroom so the letters are backwards. It's a mirror image.

Good Episoed but with Disappointments
hardingtablue9 March 2024
Disappointment No. 1: Dr. Banfield gets up to sing and the first song, they play the lead-in but cut the scene before she starts singing "Hot Pockets, check-em and see. You gotta heat them to 103. Come on you know you can't eat more than that. They're Hot Pockets, Hot Pockets." Disappointment No.2: And then she got the words all wrong to "I Love Rocky Road" "Baby, I love Rocky Road. So won't you go and buy a.half-a-gallon Baby. I love Rocky Road. So have another triple scoop with me." And finally, Number 3: There could have been a great presentation of "Walk This Way" but they cut back to the OR.

Still, I gave it a NINE!

Dumb, Dumb, Dumb Episode
bkkaz8 September 2022
So, by its last season, ER was really struggling.

Most of the appealing characters/cast members had departed, and the one or two left -- like Neela -- had by then been perverted into hollow, doofus-y, mattress-hopping shells of themselves. When the main characters are now one of the dads from that show with the little blond twins and the ever-annoying Sam Taggart, you know you're in trouble.

And that's the problem here. Sam Taggart is up to her 14th or 15th time using someone else to watch her delinquent spawn and then going all holier-than-thou when something goes wrong. She is such a tired, whiny, mercenary character, you can play a game each week trying to figure out what personality disorder she has.

Then there's a subplot involving the so-rigid-she-must-have-splinters-coming-out-of-her-pants chief Banfield, who, of course, turns into the supercool performer because, you know, she's black while the nebb-sh-y short and dorky Morris is humiliated despite his best intentions. Really, it seems like high school bullying and the cheesiest of cliches. But by this point, the writers are clearly no longer the A team.

There's some other stuff going on with Mrs. Garrett from Facts of Life and some nonsense about Neela proving she's just a terrible leader. But this episode is the worst example of how the once great ER went from a pretty solid medical drama with some insight into personal lives into a two-dimensional soap opera.
