Pointing the finger
ctomvelu-17 December 2008
Booth and his son find a finger in a bird's nest while at the park. The body that later turns up belongs to that of a veterinarian who apparently was killed by a dog with very sharp teeth. This leads Booth and Brennan to dogfight clubs, among other things. In one very funny bit, they visit a junkyard, where Booth must teach Brennan the etiquette of dealing with rural folks. The junkyard dog gives Booth the willies, but Brennan takes right to it and ends up playing with it, to Booth's dismay. In addition, Booth worries about the state of his son's mental health in the wake of their gruesome discovery. Brennan assures Booth he has nothing to worry about. After all, when she was little, she discovered the body of an elderly neighbor and look how she turned out!

Dog gone it! Bones rescues success from the jaws of disaster.

Warning: Spoilers
Hi Bones Booth Podcast English Jan here.

What can I say about this episode? As an aminal lover, I'm appalled by the subject of dogfighting. This episode goes into graphic details on the subject, which turned my stomach far more than the gory bodies usually do-a challenging subject matter for all dog/animal lovers.

Yet despite this, I still enjoyed this because we saw that Booth is not so accomplished in his parenting role as he is in others areas of his life. It's nice to see Booth as human rather than superhuman as he is sometimes portrayed.

Of course, it is the end scene that again steals the show. Booth is supporting Bones by Ripley's grave.

Brilliant music choice too.

May I Hold Your Dog While You Cry?

Warning: Spoilers
Warning: this review is very rambly, disjointed and all over the place.

Although this episode isn't one I come back to often, I really love it.

Seeing Brennan interact with all the dogs is so lovely and her excitement when she was planning to adopt Ripley made the ending all the more heart crushing.

I'm glad they finally addressed Hodgins' feelings regarding losing both Zack and Angela, something they seemed to have ignored in the previous episode. That little "You're a genius" "No, you're the genius" exchange between Hodgins and Angela even made me cry a bit because you can see that both of them are still hurting and trying to navigate working together post break-up.

I'm a bit ambivalent towards this week's squintern but I guess that's why we never see him again.

It's always great to see Booth and Parker's relationship and it's really sweet how much Booth worries about him.

Of course bringing in the Dog Whisperer was a bit random but it doesn't take away from the enjoyment of the episode.

Overall, a great episode 9/10

(side note: Robbie from this episode was also in the DCOM "Avalon High" which I used to be obsessed with as a kid)

While not a perfect episode, this one is a great improvement over the first two sorry ones. This involves a man who was killed by a dog which leads to some investigating of dog fighting. It isn't surprising that Brennan, who can be such a cold fish, has a connection to animals. It's probably because animals have no agendas and act in a way that evolution has made them. There are two subplots, both involving Sweets. At the beginning, Boone and his son find a finger in a birds nest (which sets up the dog thing). Booth worries that his son is traumatized although there are no signs relating to the finger. But there is something. The other is the intense anger that Hodgins is feeling toward everyone. There is a nice one time appearance from the guy who played Jimmy on "The Practice." Overall, a decent episode.

Hey Bones Booth Pod!

Warning: Spoilers
I'm glad Booth didn't let Parker knock down the whole nest. Awwwww I agree Hodgins King of the Lab just isn't the same. Lol Parker is definitely going to tell his mom. Haha yes Sweets you are his babysitter. Such a cool cameo with Cesar Milan. No dogs or any animals should have to suffer and die for the entertainment of abhorrent humans. Haha Poor Parker being carried around. I whole heartedly agree Bones is WASN'T Ripley's fault that it's so sad.

So many WRONG elements
Gelet144727 December 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This was obviously written as an anti-dogfighting polemic. Fine, dandy, I'm adamantly opposed to dogfighting, too. BUT… 1. I am very, very tired of Booth being portrayed as, well, poorly educated, ignorant, and just plain stupid. The man is a veteran FBI agent. He would have to have at least a BA. I cannot believe he wouldn't know what "Canis lupus familiaris" is, and certainly not that he couldn't even pronounce it.

2. Sorry, but not even Cesar Milan can just walk up to highly aggressive dogs, on their turf, chained up, whisper at them, and get them to lie down and wag their tails. Nonsense.

3. Ripley is a Malinois. Have any of the writers ever actually MET a Malinois? Ever worked with a Malinois? Even if the dog wasn't trained for bitework, someone like "Bones" is completely unsuited to own one. For that matter, Bones shouldn't have ANY dog: she works 12+ hours a day. And an attack-trained Malinois is NOT a dog for someone with NO experience with dogs.

The writers of this episode should be ashamed of themselves.

Shhhhhh, I am the Mediocrity Whisperer
PartialMovieViewer13 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The main storyline, you know, the one tailored for the two stars (Yes - at this point they are still Bones and Booth) is well written, has good flow and kept my interest. Adding the Dog Whisper was a bit of a stretch, but a nice little addition. In any case, the story the lead characters were involved was very well engineered. Before this is the good, now for the bad. Cam still needs some serious adjustments. She is still cold and overly arrogant - but she does soften much later in the series. Sadly, Hodges should have been swapped with Zack, and I honestly am tired of the Hodges-Angela's soap opera. Not their best work.
