Go, Aniston!
11 October 2010 | by (Italy) – See all my reviews

For the third episode in a row, Season 3 of 30 Rock makes great use of celebrity guest stars, harking back at past comedy glories (rigorously NBC, of course) and delivering inane zingers at a steady pace.

The main plot concerns Liz and Jenna receiving a visit from their old Chicago roommate, Claire Harper (Jennifer Aniston). Despite repeated warnings, Jack starts a relationship with her, only to realize her behavior is borderline psychotic. The rest of the episode consists of a loving tribute to late '80s sitcom Night Court: Kenneth watched the show religiously, and in order to make him feel better over a job problem, Tracy decides to bring the old cast members back together to stage the proper finale the series never received.

Unafraid to go over the top, the episode is an ode to pure silliness. Even the Night Court reunion, reverential as it may seem (and the three actors playing themselves are truly enjoying the opportunity), takes a detour towards crazy land when it turns out the show jumped the shark because of a guest appearance by Jenna (see it to believe it). As usual, though, most of the laughs come from Baldwin, who steals every single scene he shares with the feisty Aniston, continuing the tradition of cute Friends references (see also the episode title) paired with that typical 30 Rock twist (although David Schwimmer's Greenzo remains hard to match). A comedy masterclass, with some of the best influences in the history of American television.
