New Halloween Movie Is Ditching R-Rated Gore for True Scares

New Halloween Movie Is Ditching R-Rated Gore for True Scares
Everything about the upcoming Halloween movie sounds good, but it's all coming from a pretty odd place. Danny McBride, the man known for his roles in movies like This is the End and Pineapple Express, co-wrote the script for the reboot with David Gordon Green, a man also known for his comedy work. But they keep saying the right things about it. In a recent interview, McBride reveals that the Halloween reboot will focus more on tension, as opposed to gore, like John Carpenter's original. Here's what he had to say about it.

"We're trying to. The original is all about tension. Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) doesn't even know that Michael Myers exists until the last minutes of the movie. So much of it you're in anticipation of what's going to happen and the dread that Carpenter spins so effortlessly in that film, I think we were really

James Gunn and Kevin Feige on the Guardians director’s role as Marvel’s “cosmic consultant”

While Marvel Studios is keeping its Phase Four plans tightly under wraps (well, save for Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3), we do know that there’s going to be an increased emphasis on the cosmic side of the McU, with Guardians director James Gunn said to be working closely with Kevin Feige as a “cosmic consultant”.

Well, both Gunn and Feige have commented on this during an interview with Vanity Fair, and it seems it’s not quite as formal a role as The Avengers director Joss Whedon had during Phase Two of the McU – at least, not yet.

“They’ve talked to me about that,” said Gunn. “They’re interested in that. But I haven’t decided what my role is going to be after Guardians 3. Avengers 3 and 4 are the end of an era of Marvel. This is the end of a long-form story that’s

James Franco likes to make films, lots and lots of films.

The writer/actor/director had 18 films and TV shows in production or scheduled for release just this year — it’s taken George Clooney 10 years to make that many. However, many of Franco’s projects are indie pics that either get limited releases or sit on shelves waiting for distribution.

But he’s too good an actor and too interesting a director to have his work relegated to Hollywood’s bargain bin. Franco was looking for a breakout hit, and the delicious irony is that he’s directed the best movie of his career about the worst movie ever made.

The Walking Dead Season 8 Premiere Recap: Harm Offensive

Warning: The following contains spoilers for the Season 8 premiere of The Walking Dead. If you’ve yet to watch, pretend Negan’s about to take a swing and look away.

The Season 8 premiere (and 100th episode) of The Walking Dead was filled with inspiring fighting words about how the world belonged to Rick and our heroes, the allied forces were going to live in peace and harmony, they’d all be together forever, yadda, yadda, yadda. But the all-cried-out look in Rick’s red-rimmed eyes, seen in (I think) flash-forwards, served as a stark reminder that turning all that talk

Fla. School District Pays Former Students $3.6M After Appearing to Blame 3rd Graders for Being Molested by a Teacher

Fla. School District Pays Former Students $3.6M After Appearing to Blame 3rd Graders for Being Molested by a Teacher
A Florida school district has finally approved a $3.6 million settlement in a years-long lawsuit brought by four third-grade girls who said they were molested by a teacher in 2005, People has confirmed.

The Palm Beach County School Board voted on Wednesday night to pay the settlement, effectively putting the case behind them after more than a decade of contentious litigation.

That move comes after the district’s outside law firm once appeared to blame the children, in part, for their own sexual abuse. In court filings obtained by People, lawyers for the school district said that the children themselves were negligent and contributed to the molestation.

Fla. School District Appeared to Blame Third-Graders for Their Own Molestation by a Teacher
A Florida school district is expected this week to approve a $3.6 million settlement in a years-long lawsuit brought by four third-grade girls who said they were molested by a teacher in 2005.

But that move comes after the district’s outside law firm once appeared to blame the children, in part, for their own sexual abuse. (A lawyer with the firm reportedly disputes this characterization.)

The four girls — each about 9 years old at the time — said that their teacher, Blake Sinrod, had groped them and forced them to touch him, according to the suit.

Sinrod pleaded guilty in May 2006 to child

John Carpenter Will Score New Halloween Movie Soundtrack

John Carpenter Will Score New Halloween Movie Soundtrack
For whatever reason, the Friday the 13th franchise can't seem to get going again, but Jason's biggest rival, Michael Myers, is coming back to the big screen next year. John Carpenter, the man who directed the original Halloween and brought the modern slasher movie to life, is on board as an executive producer. So, even though he isn't directing, he's pretty heavily involved. Now we have word that he's officially signed on to score the soundtrack for the Halloween reboot as well. It's early, but this sounds like it could be awesome.

The horror legend has been doing scores for his movies for a very long time now and did the score for the original Halloween, including coming up with that iconic theme. Music has been his main focus these days, but he hasn't actually scored a Halloween movie since Halloween III: Season of the Witch, otherwise known as the

New behind-the-scenes featurette released for Hulu's Future Man

  • JoBlo
You know, I'm maybe enjoying Seth Rogen the director/showrunner more than I am Seth Rogen the comedian/actor. I mean, I really enjoyed his features - which he directed alongside long-time partner Evan Goldberg - This Is The End and The Interview, and also loved Preacher a lot more than I thought I would (which he co-ran with Goldberg as well). So with that pedigree, I am giving Future Man - the upcoming... Read More...

‘Future Man’ Trailer: Josh Hutcherson Goes Back to the Future For Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg

‘Future Man’ Trailer: Josh Hutcherson Goes Back to the Future For Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg
With This is the End, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg achieved a tricky balancing act – they made a crude comedy that also functioned as a clever and frequently thrilling horror story. That particular skill set looks like it’ll come in hand for their new Hulu series Future Man, which looks to blend dick jokes and action-packed […]

Future Man Trailer: Josh Hutcherson's Got Game in 'Insane' Hulu Comedy
You’re not alone if the plot of Hulu’s fantastically fun-looking Future Man sounds an awful lot like that of 1984’s The Last Starfighter. Josh Hutcherson’s janitor by day/gamer by night Josh Futturman makes the same observation when a visitor from 2162 (played by Happy Endings vet Eliza Coupe) explains to him that his favorite video game is actually “a recruitment and training tool sent back in time to find the one person with the skills to save us.”

‘Ghosted’ Pilot Review – Has ‘Mib’ Spirit but Needs Something More

Fox’s new supernatural comedy, Ghosted, aired its first episode this past weekend and I have some good things and some not so good things to say about it. It definitely had some bright spots but it also seemed like there was something missing from the pilot episode. Hear me out or should I say read me out?

The series stars Adam Scott (Big Little Lies, Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later) and Craig Robinson (This is the End, Hot Tub Time Machine) as former professor Max Jennifer and former detective Leroy Wright. The two are brought into the Bureau Underground, a secret government agency that specializes in paranormal and supernatural occurrences, to solve the mystery of an agent that has gone missing.

Overall, the casting is great. You have Adam Scott and Craig Robinson who make a great duo to center just about any type of comedy around.

Doctor Comedy Being Developed at NBC, Sugar Lyn Beard to Star

Beard: ScreenSlam/YouTube

Sugar Lyn Beard is stepping into scrubs. The “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates” actress is set to star in a new comedy series about a female doctor that’s being developed by NBC, Deadline reports. The project hails from Beard, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (“Preacher,” “This Is the End”), and Sony Pictures TV.

The untitled half-hour show follows Dr. Olivia Boudreau (Beard). Described as a “35-year-old hard-charging Doogie Howser-style prodigy,” Olivia’s life gets turned upside down when “she has a complete breakdown in the operating room and loses her medical license,” the source summarizes. She resorts to moving in with her “estranged hippy mom and her mom’s two best friends, who team up to help get her back on her feet, while teaching her all the life lessons she missed by going to med school.”

Beard, whose acting credits include “Sausage Party,” “50/50,” and “Weeds,” penned the script alongside Guy Endore-Kaiser (“Comedy Central Roast of James Franco”). Both will serve as executive producers.

CBS also has a woman-penned comedy about a female doctor in the works: Lisa Parsons’ “Love/Sick,” which is based on the South Korean series “Emergency Couple.”

Viewers will be saying goodbye to Dr. Mindy Lahiri, TV’s most beloved gynecologist, later this year. The sixth and final season of Mindy Kaling’s “The Mindy Project” debuted on Hulu earlier this month.

Doctor Comedy Being Developed at NBC, Sugar Lyn Beard to Star was originally published in Women and Hollywood on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.

Vice Principals Season 2 Premiere Review and Recap

For anyone who hasn’t seen any of the episodes of “Vice Principals”, it’s an exceptionally funny sitcom on HBO starring Danny McBride and Walton Coggins as Neal Gamby and Lee Russell respectively. You might remember McBride from “Alien: Covenant”, “Eastbound & Down”, “This is the End”, and a string of other majorly funny fare. And, Walton Coggins is probably best known for playing the very colorful and brilliantly evil Boyd Crowder in “Justified”, and the sexy transsexual, Venus Van Dam, in “Sons of Anarchy”, as well as starring in “The Hateful Eight”, “The Shield”, “Django Unchained”, and more .
