Let’s face it, Anchor Bay never really expected their remake of “I Spit on Your Grave” to do very well in theaters, and indeed, it didn’t. Of course, coming into theaters with an “Unrated” tag probably didn’t help either, though it obviously gave the film plenty of notoriety for its real endgame — DVD, cable, and other ancillary sales. Anchor Bay will be releasing the 2010 remake along with the 1978 version on February 8, 2011 in DVD and Blu-ray. See the cover art and specs for both versions below. Produced by CineTel Films’ Lisa Hansen and Paul Hertzberg in association with Anchor Bay Films, and directed by Steven R. Monroe, 2010’s I Spit On Your Grave tells the story of Jennifer Hills (Sarah Butler), a city girl who rents an isolated cabin in the country to write her latest novel. On one terrifying evening, a group of local lowlifes break into the cabin, »

While the upcoming A&E series "Breakout Kings" isn't horror in the strictest sense of the word, it is fringy enough to warrant a mention here on Dread Central, especially in light of the fact that two breakout genre stars have signed on to co-star in an episode together: Rodney Eastman and Scout Taylor-Compton.
Eastman, who most recently appeared in the I Spit on Your Grave redux and is probably best known as Joey from A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, and Taylor-Compton (Laurie Strode in Rob Zombie's Halloween and Halloween II) will portray a couple on the run in a sort of Bonnie and Clyde/Natural Born Killers homage.
According to an earlier story on Deadline this past summer, "Breakout Kings", which just went into production this fall in Toronto (for a 2011 premiere on A&E), follows an unconventional partnership between the U.S. Marshals’ office and »

Exclusive: Chad Lindberg has played many roles on television and film. Many may know him as the nervous tech man, Jesse, from the hit action film The Fast and the Furious which starred Paul Walker and Vin Diesel. Another role he's known for is Joe West from The Rookie, which he played opposite Dennis Quaid. He has guest starred in shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The X-Files, Sons of Anarchy, Cold Case, ER, and of course, Supernatural where he plays the charming and lovable mullet wearing fan favorite Ash. Being as I watch Supernatural, I'm one of the many fans of the character Ash and I was thrilled to get the opportunity to interview him. Chad’s latest role is in the new horror remake I Spit On Your Grave. Kim: For those who haven't seen or heard of the film, can you tell us a »

Sarah Butler once played Belle at Disneyland, but her latest role is a far cry from a fairy-tale princess. The relative unknown (except for a handful of under-the-radar TV appearances) is taking the lead in this month's unrated remake of "I Spit On Your Grave."
Butler plays Jennifer, a novelist who survives a brutally violent sexual assault against all odds and returns to get revenge on her attackers. The film is unrated as filmmakers were unable to remove enough graphic, horrific scenes to obtain an MPAA rating.
Despite the movie poster, in which you can't see Butler's face, but her rear end is showcased, the actress says that the film isn't sexual in nature. "There has been some major updating," she tells USA Today. "One of the biggest updates we've done to it is that instead of approaching her revenge by using her sexuality as a weapon, in our version »
Documentary Waiting for Superman continued its solid run over the weekend, expanding to 103 locations and easily topping all other limited releases. Never Let Me Go also added a substantial number of theaters and posted gains, while the excitement over Catfish seemed die down. A bevy of movies like Stone, Nowhere Boy, and Inside Job debuted, though they played in too few theaters to have much of an impact. Waiting for Superman earned $630,863 for a respectable per-theater average of $6,125. This was less than half of what An Inconvenient Truth was grossing at the same point in its theatrical run, though it's unreasonable to expect director Davis Guggenheim's latest project to be able to generate the same level of interest as his environmentalist documentary. Through its third weekend, Superman has tallied $1.41 million. Never Let Me Go added 124 theaters to bring its total to 167 and was up 85 percent to $345,741. While this was its best weekend yet, »

I hadn't seen the 1978 "video nasty" of which 2010's I Spit On Your Grave is a remake prior to viewing this year's version. I considered seeing the original first, but it was my understanding that it is a film more infamous than beloved, and I presumed both versions would follow a similar recipe: rape and revenge and little else.
Young writer Jennifer Mills (Sarah Butler) retires to a mountain cabin to relax and work on her second novel. Mountain cabins are great places to spook yourself out, with any little noise as easily explained as being a critter as a boogeyman. But boogeymen is what Jennifer gets, in the form of four local men, one of whom Jennifer unknowingly emasculated at the gas station on her way into town. And thus begins the stalking, raping and revenge, in that order; more detail would be either a spoiler or redundant, depending on your reasons for watching. »
Remaking I Spit On Your Grave, the notorious 1978 rape-revenge flick (though it didn’t achieve that notoriety till its title was changed from Day Of The Woman two years later) that got lumped in with the slasher trend by the genre’s detractors would seem to be a fool’s errand. The rep of Meir Zarchi’s original rests not on its narrative ingenuity or craft, but on the graphic nature of its sexual violence; could an update made in these more cinematically conservative times have the same crude impact? And if not, what’s the point? »

There's a pretty eclectic assortment of new movies hitting theatres this weekend, from the Disney horse racing movie Secretariat to Wes Craven's latest teen slasher flick My Soul to Take to the Katherine Heigl / Josh Duhamel romantic comedy Life As We Know It. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck's It's Kind of a Funny Story is also expanding this weekend, and in select theatres we have the I Spit On Your Grave remake, John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy, and the financial crisis doc Inside Job. Will The Social Network hold strong for a second week, or will it succumb to more mediocre fare?
