Storyline

Nova checks in to see how the multi-decade restoration of the Parthenon is going. They find the restorers dealing with a massive jigsaw puzzle with pieces that are only slightly different, many of which are broken or missing, and the remaining pieces were reassembled wrong by the last restoration team. Even modern methods are not up to the challenge of reconstructing the missing pieces with the necessary precision so it is necessary to rediscover the ancient methods. Written by David Foss

What you learn is that the Parthenon is STILL an amazing architectural masterpiece.
7 December 2015 | by (Bradenton, Florida) – See all my reviews

This is a very good show about the Parthenon...perhaps the best you can find. This is because although it does talk about the history of the structure, it goes beyond that--discussing at length the amazing architectural design as well as how difficult it is to replicate the precise cuts as they try to restore the structure today. Apparently, there were a lot of mistakes with the big restoration done during the 20th century--and pieces were put together WRONG in many cases and must be corrected today. And, in an effort to create a pleasing structure to the eye, certain optical illusions were designed into it! All very interesting and a show that will keep your attention from start to finish.
