4 December 2013 11:04 AM, PST | Deadline | See recent Deadline news »

Exclusive: Fresh from his turn in Lee DanielsThe Butler, David Oyelowo has been set to star in and produce A United Kingdom, a love story based on the true tale of Seretse Khama and Ruth Williams. The film is backed by UK-based Pathe, which is coming off Philomena and Mandela. They are out to directors and will film next year in London and Botswana. Oyelowo will play Seretse, heir to the African throne of Botswana, who created a sensation in 1948 by engaging in a whirlwind romance in London with Williams, a white English office worker he married. Watch: Naomi Watts Tries To Dodge The Paparazzi In Full International Trailer For 'Diana'

6 August 2013 10:03 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Appropriately, the new full international trailer for the Princess Diana biopic opens with the incessant clicks of camera shutters. Oliver Hirschbiegel's ("Downfall", "Five Minutes of Heaven") new film takes place during the last two years of Diana's life, when her every move was captured in the tabloids.  "Diana" finds the Princess (played by Naomi Watts) falling in love with surgeon Hasnat Khan (Naveen Andrews). The constant presence of cameras and reporters, however, makes it difficult for the most famous woman in the world to reconcile her public life with her personal one. The film's romantic storyline, strong lead performances, and (so far unannounced) fall release date means we should be hearing more of it come awards season.  No word on a Us release date yet, but we presume it is coming soon via eOne. September 20 is the UK release date. »

Diana: watch the first trailer of the royal biopic

13 June 2013 6:45 AM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

The first trailer has been released of the Princess Diana biopic starring Naomi Watts – and the signs are that this is going to be a pretty soft-centred affair

The first trailer for Downfall director Oliver Hirschbiegel's Princess Diana biopic has hit the web, hinting at an adulatory portrait of the figure it dubs "the most famous woman in the world".

Diana is seen escaping from scurrilous paparazzi, smiling as third world children run through a sumptuous garden, and gingerly stepping through landmine-strewn African terrain, a Red Cross symbol pasted to her chest. "An icon, adored by millions", the trailer tells us, to soaring strains of uplifting piano.

Starring Naomi Watts as the princess and titled simply Diana, the film is Hirschbiegel's followup to 2009's Northern Ireland troubles-themed Five Minutes of Heaven. The German director is best known for the acclaimed 2004 film Downfall, retelling of the last days of Adolf Hitler. »

Belfast-set thriller The Fall joins the few dramas to tackle the Troubles

14 May 2013 7:02 AM, PDT | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

Throughout the 30 years of the Troubles – and even after – TV was reluctant to explore the divisions of Northern Ireland. Can the new BBC2 crime drama face up to the issues?

In The Fall, which began on Monday night, Gillian Anderson, displaying her Streepian facility with accents, plays an English detective from the Metropolitan police who is sent to review an unsolved murder investigation in Belfast. And Alan Cubbitt's five-part thriller marks the latest phase in one of the most historically fraught issues in British broadcasting: the question of how Northern Ireland should be depicted on screen.

At various times in its history, it has been a piece of luck for the BBC to be generally known by its initials rather than the full trading name: the British Broadcasting Corporation. A current problem, for example, is what it means to be an officially British broadcaster in an era of increased independence for Scotland, »

Quad Released For Belfast Music Movie ‘Good Vibrations’

26 February 2013 7:30 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

I love good music-based movie, some of my all-time favourites include The Commitments, Almost Famous and the superbly soundtracked High Fidelity. Today we have the first quad for Belfast-based Good Vibrations which recreates the story of Belfast music legend Terri Hooley, the man responsible for discovering The Undertones and recording Teenage Kicks, the song that was championed by cult music-king John Peel. The film follows the life of Hooley and how it gave the alternative music a chance to flourish in Belfast during the darkest days of Northern Ireland’s Troubles. Richard Dormer (Five Minutes Of Heaven) stars alongside Jodie Whittaker (Attack The Block).

Terri Hooley is a radical, rebel and music-lover in 1970s Belfast, when the bloody conflict known as the Troubles shuts down his city. As all his friends take sides and take up arms, Terri opens a record shop on the most bombed half-mile in Europe and calls it Good Vibrations. »
