Tim Roth on 'Tin Star,' Tarantino and Tupac

Tim Roth on 'Tin Star,' Tarantino and Tupac
Skinheads, hit men, cops, criminals, cops-posing-as-criminals, princes, junkies, executioners, politicians, supervillains, an 18th-century fop, a 19th-century impressionist painter and a 21st-century psychotic chimp – you name it, and there's an extremely good chance that Tim Roth has played it. The 56-year-old British actor has the sort of varied, overstuffed resumé that suggests a reserved spot in the steadily-working-character-actor canon, and has not one but two projects hitting TV screens at the moment: Tin Star, an Amazon thriller that about an expat cop living in Canada that starts as a quirky fish-out-of-water

Set in King’s fictional town, the psychological horror series “combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland.”

Interview, Audio: Monica Raymund of ‘Chicago Fire’ Debuts New Film ‘Tanya’ on Aug. 1, 2017

Chicago – TV fans know Monica Raymund as paramedic Gabby Dawson on the long-running “Chicago Fire.” But the talented actor is expanding her range, debuting her first film as director, “Tanya,” at the Midwest Independent Film Festival on Tuesday, August 1st, 2017. The short film – written by Sam Forman – will be part of “Female Filmmakers Night” at the Midwest Indie, and is part of Raymund’s involvement with Hidden Tears Project, an organization dedicated to raising consciousness by creating media on gender inequality, sexual abuse and human trafficking.

“Tanya” was produced in association with the Human Tears Project, as it tells the flashback story of a 14-year-old girl (Kiah McKirnan) who encounters a client named Chuck in a prostitution scenario. There is something different about the exchange, and the result will be life changing for everyone involved. Chuck is portrayed by Eamonn Walker, who co-stars with Raymund on “Chicago Fire.” The film

Mind the Gap: BBC Pay Crisis Shakes U.K. Television Industry

The BBC lit a fire under the British television industry when it published the earnings of its top talent by name. The data dump revealed that two-thirds of BBC stars earning more than £150,000 ($195,000) are men. When it comes to age, the picture is even worse: Four times as many men over 50 fall in that salary bracket as women over 50. Ethnic minority stars are also severely underrepresented.

The BBC was forced to release the figures by the British government. Under pressure, director general Tony Hall pledged to give women equal pay and airtime by 2020 but said on July 23 that he would try to reach that goal even earlier after 40 senior female staffers, in an open letter, called on him to “act now.”

While many cheer Hall’s commitment, it’s questionable whether the rest of the industry will follow suit, despite the influence the BBC wields in the U.K. broadcasting landscape.

Why Swimfan Is the Most Underrated Thriller of the 2000s

Why Swimfan Is the Most Underrated Thriller of the 2000s
Fifteen years ago, Swimfan came to the big screen. Made for $10 million, Swimfan grossed $34 million worldwide. This tale of a swimmer (Jesse Bradford) who engages the wrong girl (Erika Christensen) in a one night stand, was essentially Fatal Attraction for the teen set. And, as hyperbolic as this may sound, it was also the best film of 2002. Even if it doesn't make IMDb's most underrated list for the Aughts.

Okay, so it came nowhere near an Academy Award nomination. Hell, it didn't even pick up an MTV Movie Awards nod. Does anybody believe that the best picture winner for any given year is really The best picture? If we ignore that idea altogether, then it is plausible Swimfan was indeed the best overall film released all throughout 2002. It may not have done the biggest box office, barely anyone remembers it now, but what it did in a cerebral sense, and with its visceral imagery,

The Batman: Joe Manganiello No Longer Sure If Deathstroke Will Be In Film

Wow, what an insane few weeks it has been for the Caped Crusader. Actually, this all started a month ago, or so, when Ben Affleck kept flip-flopping his position on The Batman. Then Affleck announced that he will no longer be directing the film. After that, we hear that Matt Reeves has been hired to direct, and that he could possibly rewrite the entire thing, but we also heard that Joe Manganiello was still hard at work training to be an insanely skilled Deathstroke. Finally, we heard about Affleck's personal life issues that he is working to improve, which could, and should, take priority over everything else.

Manganiello has been on numerous talk shows, exuberant about the upcoming role. However, on Pittsburgh Today Live, Manganiello was again asked by a prodding TV anchor if he "will be playing Deathstroke in the upcoming Batman movie, maybe... hopefully." He basically throws his hands up,

This week’s question comes from reader Kate Lander:

During a recent viewing of the largely mediocre Lie To Me, I found myself thinking about how my interest in the show is almost entirely based on Tim Roth’s lead performance. So my question is: Who is an actor that you find so compelling, you watch films or television shows you’re not otherwise interested in, simply because of their involvement?

“Musical Black Ops”: Castle and Buffy composer Robert Duncan talks soundtracks with Flickering Myth

Sean Wilson chats exclusively to multiple Emmy nominee Robert Duncan, veteran composer of shows as diverse as Castle, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Lie to Me, getting to the heart of the essential question: what makes a truly great soundtrack?

Robert, it’s a privilege to chat to you. To begin with, you were born into an extraordinary lineage of illustrious musicians – as I understand it, your great-grandfather composed music for silent movies, is that correct?

He did, yes, in London. He would take excerpts of classical pieces and pull out the pages of the applicable part and line them up on the music stands. He then had a little foot switch that connected to the lights on the musicians’ music stands. So he would step on the switch, the light would flicker and they would know to turn the page and start playing the chase music; then he would

Captain Marvel's Director Search Has Been Narrowed Down To These Three

Lesli Link Glatter, Niki Caro, Lorene Scafaria

A few weeks back, it was confirmed that Oscar-winning actress Brie Larson was cast as Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel in the upcoming Marvel film...Captain Marvel. The film is still a solid three years away, so the studio has plenty of time between now and then, but the character is likely to show up in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War, a good year or so before her own standalone film.

As such, it makes sense that Marvel Studios would be hard at work looking for someone to helm Captain Marvel. Given that Black Panther director Ryan Coogler had a hand in the introduction of the character in Captain America: Civil War so that the character would have consistency between films, it's a no-brainer that Marvel would want to do the same thing with Captain Marvel.

So who's up to direct Marvel's first female-led solo film?
