I’ve got questions about the Cars cinematic universe

18 July 2017 1:21 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Simon Brew Jul 19, 2017

With spoilers, some questions have sprung to mind about Pixar's Cars films. Er, can you help?

The world of the Cars films has always been a bit of a puzzle for me. I don’t have a massive affection for the films, although quite enjoyed movies number one and three. The origins of this particular film world are said to lie in a road trip that John Lasseter – who directed the first two movies – took with his family. That, combined with work Pixar had already been doing on a film called The Yellow Car, set things into motion, and in 2006, the film debuted as Pixar’s fifth feature.

I don’t want to delve into the critical response to Cars. I don’t think it’s going out on too far of a limb to call it Pixar’s least-regarded boxset, but also, I get that these »

Gotham’s very own maid of mischief is stepping out (of prison) with style, and every inch of her exudes attitude. Standing 19” tall, Harley Quinn is decked out in her Suicide Squad outfit, which features a bright red and blue color scheme with her dip-dyed matching hair from the film. Her traditionally clownish makeup is replaced with vibrant eye shadow and striking red lips, keeping with her updated theme.

New Poster For The Blob Evokes Alien

8 June 2017 11:52 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

As we continue to live in an era populated by remakes, it’s not hard to overlook the fact the the horror genre is probably the one most often perpetuating the practice – and probably also the one we have to thank for spearheading the movement. Beyond that, there’s an exclusive club of films that have been remade more than once, with Carrie being a recent example that comes to mind and, before long, The Blob will join that ilk.

Originally spooking moviegoers back in 1958, the corrosive, growing Blob would absorb unsuspecting townsfolk before ballooning to gigantic proportions. It later received a 1972 sequel and a 1988 remake, the latter of which was probably my first exposure to the franchise because, let’s be honest, any child of the ’80s can tell you we watched many movies that we probably shouldn’t have as kids. Hell, we even had action figures for »

Action packed new trailer for The Hitman’s Bodyguard, starring Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson

Author: Scott Davis

Summit Entertainment and Millenium Films has today unveiled a brand new trailer for their anticipated action-comedy The Hitman’s Bodyguard, which you can view in the player below!

The new film stars Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool, Life) and Samuel L. Jackson (Kong: Skull Island, Avengers: Infinity War) and thus far the marketing has been making a few loving pokes at the classic 1992 film The Bodyguard including utilising the poster and Whitney Houston’s famous song “I Will Always Love You” to add to the “fun” aspect of the film.

The second trailer, however, goes all out on the action front as well as a whole host of R-rated humour for which Reynolds and Jackson are dab hands at. In the film, Reynolds plays the world’s leading bodyguard and is offered a new job: guarding one of the world’s leading hitmen (Jackson) – but, as you would have expected, »

Newswire: Doug Liman reveals that he left Gambit over the script

9 May 2017 7:02 AM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Somehow, somewhere, Fox is still developing a Gambit movie for Channing Tatum—but without Doug Liman, who was once attached to direct. Now, while promoting his new film The Wall, Liman has explained why he gave up on the X-Men spinoff to try his hand at the DC universe with Justice League Dark. “I’m all about the script, and I just wasn’t feeling it,” he said in an interview with Lrm. “I’ve got to connect to the script.“ He then went on to compare his feelings on this matter to Matt Damon’s, noting that Damon calls himself a “‘script whore.” That’s really neither here nor there, though. Ultimately, it just seems like Gambit wasn’t shaping up to be all that great.

Russell Crowe in talks to join David Oyelowo in Arc Of Justice

9 May 2017 4:52 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Russell Crowe is reportedly in talks to join David Oyelowo in court room drama Arc Of Justice, so reports Variety. Jose Padilha, who directed the Robocop remake but is more recently known for his work on Netflix drama Narcos, is helming the project, which is based on Kevin Boyle’s book “Arc of Justice: A Saga of Race, Civil Rights, and Murder in the Jazz Age.”

Here’s the plot synopsis, according to Amazon.

In 1925, Detroit was a smoky swirl of jazz and speakeasies, assembly lines and fistfights. The advent of automobiles had brought workers from around the globe to compete for manufacturing jobs, and tensions often flared with the Kkk in ascendance and violence rising. Ossian Sweet, a proud Negro doctor-grandson of a slave-had made the long climb from the ghetto to a home of his own in a previously all-white neighborhood. Yet just after his arrival, a mob gathered outside his house; suddenly, »

Russell Crowe, David Oyelowo to star in Arc Of Justice

8 May 2017 5:17 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

David Crow May 9, 2017

Russell Crowe and David Oyelowo are poised to star in Arc of Justice, a film about a trial involving race, murder, and Clarence Darrow.

Clarence Darrow is certainly one of the most famous lawyers in American history. A leading figure in the Aclu’s infancy, Darrow was the defence lawyer during the first 'Trial of the Century' in 1925 regarding the killers Leopold and Loeb, and he famously defended the right to teach evolution against William Jennings Bryan in the Scopes Trial that same year. It hence stands to reason that more films about the legendary figure’s career would eventually make it to the screen beyond the fictionalised account of Scopes in Inherit the Wind (1960).

Thus enter Arc Of Justice, a new budding courtroom drama that explores the turbulent and still vital struggle of race in America during the NAACP’s early days. As according to Variety »

Why X-Men Spin-Off Gambit Lost Director Doug Liman

8 May 2017 10:12 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

While it was aiming for a spring start date, 20th Century Fox's X-Men spin-off Gambit was dealt a serious blow in October when director Doug Liman left the project, in favor of making the Warner Bros./DC Films superhero adventure Justice League Dark. While Gambit still doesn't have a director at this time, the project is forever moving forward, with Channing Tatum still attached to play the title character. While promoting his new film The Wall, Doug Liman revealed why he left Gambit.

The director spoke with We Got This Covered, and he asked why he stepped away from Gambit, just months before shooting was scheduled to begin. At the time, there was no concrete reason given for his departure, but the director revealed in this new interview that he didn't feel any personal connection to the material. Here's what he had to say about why he left the Gambit movie. »

Samuel L. Jackson Would Rather Do John Wick 3 Than a Nick Fury Movie

16 March 2017 11:30 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Though Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. has had a good run on ABC, there has always been talk of Samuel L. Jackson getting his own stand-alone Nick Fury movie. But guess what? The actor doesn't seem so interested in that. And he has a better idea. He wants to co-star in John Wick 3.

Samuel L. Jackson hasn't ever really held the same kind of 'franchise viagra' mantra that fueled Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's path to superstardom, but he has appeared in his fare share of sequels, outside of the Marvel universe. After becoming a true household name with his appearance in Pulp Fiction, Jackson immediately took on a key role in Die Hard 3. He also brought quite a bit of gravitas to the Star Wars prequels as Mace Windu. And he's a permanent fixture in the xXx movies. Now, he wants in on John Wick's territory. »
