Touching, provocative and eerie

A beautifully shot exploration of grieving parents in alternate reality. The film feels like an homage to various iconic filmmakers; Lynch, Nolan, and Merrick. Well worth the watch and a good calling card for a feature film.

Small Budget, Big Ideas
lsherval-2888526 October 2021
Short on running time but not short on ideas, "Blank Shores" wrestles with relatable themes on a scale that is both intimate and far reaching, as we follow grieving Emily (Georgina Campbell) on her quest to find her missing partner, and to a surprising destination.

Hobbled somewhat by the short film format, the small cast works well with economical dialogue. Where "Blank Shores" truly excels is in its production design, editing and atmosphere.

It would be remiss to judge too harshly the lack of detail in the world building. The sci fi technology employed by the characters and its place in the world, for example, go mostly unexplained. But viewed in isolation this is a very precise piece of work and something that could benefit from expansion, should the opportunity arise.

Trauma & Science

Beautiful, thoughtful examination of human trauma, relationships and escapism.

A story told delicately with stunning emotive music. The combination of the costume and production design were key components to ensuring the director had all elements to tell a moving thought provoking story.

This film has great composition and cinematography the topic is heavy but the whole film evokes a strong emotional standpoint. I would recommend that everyone looking for a heartfelt short film to tuck at your feelings to watch Blank Shores. It is spectacular and deserves recognition.

Filmmaking at its Finest

Truly amazed by this film. In most cases films can look great, but fall flat with the storytelling or vice versa. This film however, has it all - on more than one occasion during its runtime I found myself getting emotional by both of those above elements - and that is what film is meant to do!

Everyone needs to keep an eye out for this filmmaker, remember his name Alex Kyrou - because we will all be seeing it up on the big screen again! And I can't wait to see what he cooks up next.

Love the cinematography.

Blank Shores has a sad and deep story but told sympathetically. It has a moody tone and great cinematography that I could watch for hours. I can imagine a mystery thriller in this style would be amazing. Definitely worth a watch.
