King of Dreams, Lord of Nightmare

A masterful adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Sandman. I'm a lifelong fan of Gaiman's work, from Neverwhere to American Gods, but Sandman is my absolute favorite piece. The direction, the voice acting, the narration from Gaiman himself is top tier entertainment. Something to enjoy before the Netflix series premieres this winter!

I typically loathe audio books but.....
stefanbomb6 May 2022
This audio book series I guess you could call it was breathtaking. The way that each and every character had a nuance to them and development was breathtaking. I could not stop listening and falling deep in the stories and the beauty of them all 10 out of 10 would deff recommend.

Better than ever expected
jace0312 August 2020
I understand why it's taken so long to have these tales translated into film, if it is to be done properly. I was worried about losing the feeling of "place" in an audio version, but the production, cast, and of course the Narrator himself have done an amazing job with one of my favorite series of all time. Thank you.

Nothing short of Perfection
zvitalit5 August 2020
As an old Gaiman fan, I was hopeful about this audio book and it is so far way better than I've hoped for.

I've first read the Sandman graphic novels many years ago (around 2003-4) and was falling in love with it and its creator. Hearing this audio book is as colorful and amazing as the original graphic masterpiece, and it stands as a masterpiece of its own.

The narration by Neil himself, the sound acting by the cast, the picturesque descriptions of the scenes - all are executed in such perfection that this is, in my eyes, an amazing introduction into the world of the Endless ones.

Thank you Neil, again, for such a wonderful gift.

LISTEN TO ME!!
karynislay8 August 2022
WATCHHHHH!! Reviews are subjective, I typically don't listen to other's reviews if I want to see something. I'm so glad I didn't listen...this series is effortlessly acted & written the actors are PERFECT. It's been a long time since I've been transported to another realm & didn't realize it. I'd feel like a sell out if I didn't mention that this is the first series where I didn't feel like they just threw a Black person in for a quota, I actually didn't notice race in a world that's obsessed with it. I just enjoyed the storyline and rift's the cinema magic. You owe it to yourself to be entertained PEOPLE!!!

I kept getting the feeling that this show would step out of my interest at many points. Yet I kept eagerly hitting next episode after each. I will watch this one again now that Im familiar with its style and I expect I will enjoy it even more. It was a weird one and I found it compelling.

Brilliantly executed!

Still working my way through the dramatization, and rereading the graphic novels just prior. The voice actors, sound editors and other production specialists have done a fantastic job of bringing Gaiman's masterpiece to life. After years of production hell of attempts to turn the series into a movie or television show, it appears they've finally found the ideal medium.

I do recommend that people read the series prior to listening though, less the frequent scene and character shifts confuse anybody unfamiliar with the story.

Blown away
jason_rachel29 January 2021
My first audio book and where do I go from here!?! Absolutely blown away. Mr. Gaiman, you are an absolute genius. The casting and performances are perfection. James McAvoy as Morpheus .....drew me into a story like never before. The level of creativity and imagination in The Sandman boggles my mind. It was like seeing and feeling the sun for the first time. And the "cereal" conference actually frightened me....something that's not easy to do Thank you yo everyone who made this masterpiece!

Best thing on Netflix in years
paganuccijd24 August 2022
I dont think I could have enjoyed this show more.

Its true to the comics while still being current. Dark, honest, hopeful, inclusive. Storytelling in the truest sense.

Already hoping for consecutive seasons.

Probably the best thing ever made
dinkosego28 February 2022
How many times I praised Sandman to anyone I met. Then explaining comic book made for audio book. How? Why?

But what a beauty. I am lucky I didn't read the comic book before listening. So, I can just imagine what I hear, dream it. I am lifetime fan of radio drama. Value behind radio drama is imagination and having atmosphere as you are there. How do you picture Gandalf or Snape after watching movies? But how do you picture Morpheus or Corinthian or Death just by listening?

Netflix is even making the show and it has to be great show, but it cannot surpass audio book. Once you see, you cannot imagine. And Dream is only about imagination. That is why this is such an art. Probably the best thing ever made.

Simply perfect
skellons1 April 2024
I came to The Sandman later than most and fell under its spell straight away. The imagination of Neil Gaiman to bring this modern day epic into reality was simply terrifying, intriguing and beautiful all at the same time.

I moved with some trepidation to the podcast , a feeling which was short lived. This is stunning absolutely perfect from casting to delivery with Neil G watching over it all as narrator.

I now have this on audible and listen regularly and hear new things each time.

Pure genius packaged in bitesize chunks which act as a mini theatrical performance with a cast of high quality. If you have seen the series but not heard this you are missing out on the nuances of the storylines - thank you to all who put time into this and thank you Neil for bringing us into the world of Dream.
