The mystery begins
4 April 2016 | by (Swansea, United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

Martin Taylor has returned home, to the seaside town he grew up in, to spend time with his dad Johnno. Martin had seemingly turned his back on his roots for a new life. Johnno sets off with his fellow crew members aboard The Caistor, a fishing trawler, and Martin encounters a young lady 'Suzy Summerfield.' The pair hit it off. Alarm bells start ringing when contact with the Caistor is lost for four days, naturally all the crew's family and loved ones are concerned, believing there to be Russian involvement. It becomes evident that there is Political interest in the disappearance of the Caistor. After eight days, The Caistor is reported lost at Sea. Pulling the strings is Sir Peter Hillmore, along with subordinate Francis Main, their aim is to stop the real truth of what happened coming to light. Wreckage appears in Norway.

Political, Spy dramas were very popular back in the 80's and this is a fine, if lesser known example. I find the opening episode wonderfully engaging, it sets a fascinating story, creates believable characters, I find it well acted, Tom Wilkinson makes a great lead man.

Worth watching, if only for the magical theme tune.

Great start, 8/10
