Not great, but charming
Okay, so I saw this movie when I was younger and fell in love with it. Years later, I realize that it's pretty flawed.

First off, the acting isn't that great. Edwards and Meyers seemed to be the worst out of all of them , and I'm pretty sure they only got the roles because their moms wrote it. The girl that played Riley (mean black girl) played the role well, but you could tell she was nervous. Emma Duke was just...bad. Like she's the definition of a child actor. But despite this, they all play their characters, for what they are, pretty decently.

The writing is really weird and awkward sometimes. To the point where it's almost distracting.

But I appreciate this movie because of the direction and the fact that the cast looked like they were actually having fun. The director obviously had a vision and the way the characters act is just...I don't know, fun and charming to watch.

If you hate cliché tween movies, probably avoid this. If you're a girl or someone who likes girl movies, then maybe give this a try. When I need something simple to watch, I usually go to this movie.

some minor Nancy Drewing
SnoopyStyle22 June 2021
It's the Danforth Academy boarding school. Abby is jealous of new girl Paige but she happens to be her assigned roommate. Abby sends her away and keeps Claire. Paige finds Taylor as her new roommate. Someone threatens to make the cheerleaders sick and then it actually happens. Next the soccer team is threatened and the four girls investigate.

The production is lower grade. It's a lot of young tween amateur actors. Jennette McCurdy is the only one to make the big times and she seems to be retired now. Such is the lottery odds of show business. This is a bit of Nancy Drewing going on in this movie. The writing and directing is kids TV level. I actually like Abby's character journey with Paige but most of the characters are rather simplistic. This is really only a movie for young girls at best.

Pretty good tween movie
minsenfam13 October 2009
Watched this movie with my two tweenage girls today. They love iCarly and Jennette McCurdy and so they made me buy it. I thought it was a pretty good movie. They loved it. One of them is watching it again right now.

While it's not going to win an emmy, it's a decent movie. It was better than some of the silly over the top stuff that you see on Disney and Nick.

Jennette McCurdy is a talented young star and no doubt will go on to bigger things in the future. She did a nice job in the movie. My girls are huge fans of hers.

The rest of the cast did a good job too.I rate it a 7 out of 10.

Absolutely awful!!
purdy_beechtree8 October 2009
I watched this film after looking for high rated movies. What a mistake! I don't think i have been so bored of a film for a VERY long time. I should have read all the comments carefully because i didn't realise the film had been falsely voted 10's by friends of actors in the movie. I would say the film is at best a 3, and thats really being a bit too kind! The acting is horrendous, i don't see how anyone in the movie was even cast but I'm guessing the budget was extremely low. The plot is ridiculous. Do not waste your life watching this, seriously! To anyone considering voting on a movie, please give it a realistic vote. There are masterpieces with a lower rating than this pile of rubbish!

MInor D-FAILS!
KingCritic26 December 2014
Minor Details is literally the worst thing I have ever seen on a screen. It is as cheap, generic, cheesy, and overrated as a Denny's hamburger.I have never seen such bad acting in my life and would only watch this movie if someone put a gun to my head and told me to.The writing, acting, casting, theme, feel, direction, setting, and even the point of this entire movie is outrageously stupid.Just by looking at the title of this movie made me scream out that it was it was going to be another girly film about a bunch of baloney, and I was quite right. The actors look like they're holding their script in front of them and saying their lines aloud, and the only decent and sort of known actor in Minor Details is the girl from iCarly that was still terrible in this movie.I sort of think that my 10 year old sister, the one who made me watch this movie as it was her turn for family movie night, created this entire movie after an investor passed her 100 dollars to make it.The only thing they got right was characterization which was because the characters are dim witted and have the direction of a broken GPS.If you put a decent film with a sub-par plot such as Rudy next to this movie,Minor Details would disintegrate in to a million pieces. This movie is just another mixture of a bunch of other movies with the same theme.Minor Details must have been put together by super glue because this movie's sense of interesting plot structure is as weak as a cheap watchstrap. This movie is as ridiculously cliché,as if someone watched every single movie ever made, found a running theme in all of them, and put them in to this one .If you are above twelve and/or male I would advise you not to watch this movie unless you have a big bowl of ice cream to tolerate it.Minor Details is absolutely perfect for a ten year old girl's slumber party.Otherwise, don't watch this film.

Complete Garbage!!!!!
council2421 February 2010
I don't know who's been writing all of these glowing reviews for this film, but I'm guessing that they've either never seen a film before in their lives or maybe they had something to do with making the film. That's about the only explanation, because EVERYTHING is BAD about this film. The writing is horrible, the acting is terrible, the casting is awful and the direction is pathetic. I can understand a bad script and the poor direction, but couldn't they have at least found some interesting actors?? It seems like you'd be able to walk into about any high school in the country and find a half dozen kids that could act better or be more interesting than this cast. I'm not trying to pick on these kids, but I can't ever recall seeing a film where so many of the actors were just unpleasant to even watch on screen.

This is one of those rare films that comes along every so often where it seems like everything went wrong. From the low budget look and poor staging of the scenes to the actors that sound like they're reading cue cards, badly, it seems like nothing goes right.

And for those people that are able to make it to the end of this flick, you probably did more hurling than all the kids in this film. A Terrible Film!!! This is the kind of film IMDb should allow people to give the film a zero or maybe negative one review, because it doesn't deserve a one star!!

horrible movie !
therandommango23 April 2011
Warning: Spoilers
This movie has horrible acting, horrible filming, horrible everything ! I wasted an hour an a half watching this, I know it was a low budget movie, but seriously, it sucked. Maybe little kids would enjoy it, but definitely not like pre-teens, and teens. Like 5-7 year olds maybe.

Honestly this movie has really bad acting, they don't't know how to act, it's really annoying and boring. I advise you don't waste your time watching this garbage.

There were a few actors that could act, but most could not. Like none of the main girls could act! They all act really cheesy to me. Please, if you really want to buy this movie, watch it first!! Because I would not want to waste a dime of my money on this garbage movie. So I recommend if you really want to see this movie rent it, or watch it on TV or online first!

I'm very pleasantly surprised!
calimomof221 October 2009
This was a really cute movie! I didn't know what to expect but my daughters, who are 8 and 10 saw the commercials for it on TV and asked me to buy it. They just loved it. I thought the cast was great and Jennette McCurdy did a great job. She's fun to watch on iCarly. We liked the 4 girls the solved the mystery too! My girls are hoping for a sequel!

I thought the adult actors did a good job too. I didn't recognize any of them but they were talented and funny. Especially the professor. You can tell this isn't a big budget movie from a studio but it had lots of heart and I'm glad we own it. I would recommend moms buying this for their kids.

A Very Good Movie
hollywood_connections21 October 2009
This was a very enjoyable and entertaining movie, one that parents could feel comfortable watching with their young children, which is rare these days for a film with anything but a 'G' rating. Pre-teens and young teens especially will enjoy this.

The acting was solid, the cast was superb, the writing was excellent, and the story was fun. Compared to a lot of the big-budget garbage that comes out of Hollywood today, this was a refreshing light-hearted treat. Minor Details may not be a 'Cinematic Masterpiece' (as some readers believe is the only type of film deserving of a 10 rating on IMDb, even though true cinematic masterpieces are extremely rare) but this film is far from rubbish and deserves to be applauded for the efforts of the cast and crew who all worked very hard on this project and did an outstanding job to bring it from idea to script to screen.

In short, I loved it!!! I would recommend Minor Details to anyone with children, especially girls, in the 8-14 age range. Personally, I will be watching it again and plan to own it on DVD.

Kudos to everyone involved in this project for a job well done!

An entertaining movie with a few minor issues...
joavabra12 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this movie at a friends house. The movie held my interest for the whole movie. The are just a few things that are wrng with this movie. The first issue is, why do the clothes look so outdated? It's like, the clothes back in 2009 did not look like this. Its only been about 7 years since this came out and I guessed it came out in the late 90s' or early 00s'.The next thing about this movie is, the culprit had the dumbest reason for doing what she did. I thought she would have some kind logical reason behind it all, or have some kind of backstory about getting bad grades or something. Basically anything having to do with grades or school was just filler and had no other reason. She literally bullied anyone and everyone for no reason. But other than that, this movie was pretty OK.

Love it!
gjohnson36916 October 2009
The plot is pretty good. Nothing unique but the movie is fun and entertaining for kids about age 6-13.

My grandkids love the actress who plays Mia in the movie, she's on iCarly and they love that show.

The other characters in the movie were good. My grandkids liked all the characters in the movie especially the kid with the red hair and all the hives, and the coach who talks with an Indian accent.

My favorite was Professor Plume. He was a hoot!

I rate it an 8 out of 10 because there aren't too many movies I can let my grandkids watch while they are at my house. It kept them happy for a couple of hours and that makes me happy!

Decent movies for tween girls
chaiyarutherford14 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I was surprised that this movie was as good as it was. It doesn't have the gloss and production of a typical tween movie but the story line was decent. I especially like that it portrayed girls working together, using their brains, and moving past personality differences. The characters were all dressed modestly but cute which was refreshing. I thought the actresses did a good job of creating their characters, giving them a little depth and back story. However the story as a whole was very predictable. I am so tired of shows that depict the drama between girls at this age picking each other apart. This movie showed the girls something positive, a different reality that is possible even if it's not popular. These issues go back forever but we can keep trying to overcome them and I think this is a movie that helps our girls see positive ways to interact with difficult people or work through trying situations. All in all, it wasn't horrible to sit through though honestly I was reading or on the laptop but still, happy to be a presence when they would ask a question or make a comment. It's a mom & daughter movie for sure, good for a sleep over.

Might Only suit the targeted age group
ichocolat21 October 2009
In my humble opinion, this is a film that will only be liked by those of a certain age group, most probably pre-teens. The film is not intended for all age group, and as such, those who are way older than the targeted age group, would not like this film that much.

The acting wasn't that great, probably because the cast are not experience in acting, and they may have problems to portray their acting into a more believable manner.

Having said that, I think their acting is quite good. And the storyline wasn't that bad either. The storyline were not focused at times, but I don't find to be bothersome.

Again, this film is may not be enjoyed by everyone, but only to those in the pre-teens age group. As for me, I don't find it my liking, but my nieces love it.

A Better Movie Than people Think
supersqr28 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
When people first look at this movie, they think it's ridiculous. But, it's actually not. I watched this on Netflix, and I fell in love with it. It's a simple story about four girls trying to solve the mystery of why is everyone at Danforth Academy getting sick. Paige (Caitlin E.J. Meyer)teams up with Abby(Kelsey Edwards), Clair (Danielle Churchran), and Taylor (Lauren Faber) to solve a mystery with clues that no one saw coming. Jennette McCurdy is pretty great in this movie. I love how it revolves around these teens. What do the KIDS think? The KIDS solve the mystery. The movie is all about them. adults are mainly background. All things considered, this is one of my favorites.
