Storyline

The Wilson family arrives in Beverly Hills, after Harrison "Harry" Wilson takes a job as the principal at West Beverly High School, while his children, Annie and Dixon, attend the school during their first week much to the awkward circumstances of their father watching over them, while Harry and his photographer wife, Debbie, also keep a close eye on Harry's washed-up, alcoholic, actress mother, Tabitha. For Annie and Dixon, the school is one big culture shock for Annie, a sweet and friendly girl with a passion for the theater, and Dixon, a star athlete and scholar who was adopted by the Wilson family after they took him in as a foster child. Annie and Dixon have a close sibling relationship, which they'll need to help them cope with all the new cliques and classmates, including Naomi Clark, a hot and stereotypical spoiled rich girl who believes that money buys everything; Ethan Ward, Annie's former boyfriend from Kansas who's now Naomi's boyfriend, and a popular lacrosse star whose ... A model perfect looking family moves from Kansas to Beverly Hills, and never struggles to fit in.
2 September 2008 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Let me just begin by saying I wanted to like 90210. I really did, but the show never gave me a character to care about. Not one. There wasn't a single character arc to follow. The actors were all attractive, but plastic. And they all appeared to speak with the same voice. The dialogue was boring, always about nothing. Always predictable. It never helped differentiate the adults from the teens.

I mean come on the two supposed leads of the story move from a Midwest town, but speak and dress like they lived in Beverly Hills their whole lives. Where's the fish out of water story, where's the teen angst of not fitting in? Within the first day they climb right to the top of the popularity ladder. My estimation is that most of that blame falls onto the plot, which was pretentious, and never tried to be anything but. The whole backdrop looked like a high end Old Navy commercial.

The writers had two full hours to do something original and fresh maybe even dare I say groundbreaking, and instead you get an MTV super sweet 16 party, where surprise the girl hosting is the school bitch. And even bigger surprise the new girl in town has caught the wandering eye of her jock boyfriend. Who we later find out deep down is a decent guy. He just needed her to bring it out. Big let down… It was the same formulaic plot regurgitated since the show premiered in the nineties. Now I know why the CW didn't do any advance screenings for the press and media. For me sadly it's 9021NO…
