Film Review: Funny, Spontaneous ‘Storks’ Really Delivers

23 September 2016 10:19 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – I’ve waited all week to write that headline, and I will be joining the 100,000 other similar headlines out there. Hey-ooh! “Storks” is a lot of fun, without the dire need for any “message” or heavy handedness that is too familiar in the current animation environment. It’s just funny.

Rating: 4.0/5.0

Much of the credit has to go to writer/co-director Nicholas Stoller (“Get Him to the Greek”), doing his first animated film. He has a light touch with comedy, pressing the accelerator when he needs to, but also getting laughs from wacky dialogue and strange asides. Staying close to the roots of the story (storks no longer deliver babies, but packages), and employing a great voice cast, combined for “Storks” to join “Sausage Factory” as the funniest full-length cartoon of the year.

The old days of storks delivering babies has gone the way of the rotary phone. The new delivery model is packages, »

The Weekend Warrior 9/23/16: The Magnificent Seven, Storks

21 September 2016 9:00 AM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.

This Past Weekend:

Yikes. What a terrible weekend we just had, not only for the new movies released but also for the Weekend Warrior’s predictions. Clint Eastwood and Tom HanksSully won its second weekend in a row with just under $22 million, but as far as the new movies, neither Lionsgate’s Blair Witch nor Universal’s Bridget Jones’s Baby did very well, putting the last nail in the coffin (hopefully) for sequels/remakes trying to play upon nostalgia that just isn’t there. (Good luck to the Rings movie opening next month!) Blair Witch ended up with $9.6 million to take second place and both Bridget Jones’s Baby and Oliver Stone’s Snowden ended up with around $8 million, so »

‘Storks’ Review: Nicholas Stoller’s Animated Comedy Is a Dumb Movie In Search of a Sweet Idea

20 September 2016 8:01 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

There’s a fleeting moment at the end of “Storks” rich with warm possibilities. One after another, would-be parents from all walks of life — gay, straight, single and many different skin colors — embrace their new infants, celebrating the universality of family bonds in a way that’s uniquely contemporary for a major studio release of this sort. The story leading up to it, however, falls short of such foolproof logic. “Storks” takes place in a world eerily devoid of sex, in which parenthood has been corporatized and then abandoned by a factory run by talking birds whose priorities have shifted to delivering non-human goods. Co-directed by Doug Sweetland and Nicholas Stoller (“Forgetting Sarah Marshall”) from Stoller’s screenplay, it doesn’t have the brains to wrestle with the outrageous conceit, nor the inspired humor to distract from the rampant absurdity. It’s a dumb movie in search of a sweet idea. »

'Storks': How an R-Rated Comedy Director and a Pair of Pixar Alums Created a Family-Friendly Film

21 August 2016 12:29 PM, PDT | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

What do you get when you combine an R-rated live-action comedy director with a pair of Pixar alums? The answer is Storks, an unconventionally-made animated feature conceived and produced by the Warner Animation Group, the studio's feature animation unit.  Storks, which opened nationwide today, is the child of writer/director Nicholas Stoller, who with no prior animation experience is perhaps best known as director of Forgetting Sarah Marshall and writer/director of Get Him to the Greek; director Doug Sweetland, a veteran animator who has worked on a string of Pixar titles including Finding Nemo and The Incredibles, and earned an

T.J. Miller to voice a character in The Emoji Movie

18 July 2016 1:16 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

A recent video posted online by Sony Pictures Animation, the production company behind such kid-friendly animated mega-hits as The Smurfs and Hotel Transylvania, has revealed that T.J. Miller is the first to join the cast of Emojimovie: Express Yourself. In the video, Miller auditions for a role in the movie by testing out his best emoji impressions on the casting director, but eventually realizes that he may have been fed some false details about the project. See it below…

The actor and comedian will be lending his voice to play “Gene, who was supposed to be a “meh” emoji like his parents. However, the optimistic character has a glitch that causes him to have multiple expressions outside of his control.” From there, in his quest to be a single emotion emoji, it sounds like he will learn to accept his abnormality as more of a blessing than a curse.

Second Trailer for Animated 'Storks' Movie Directed by Nicholas Stoller

16 June 2016 9:48 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"You're probably asking yourself how a stork, a girl, and a baby wound up in this situation?" WB has unveiled a new trailer for their animated comedy Storks, written & co-directed by Nicholas Stoller, behind the films Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek, Neighbors and Neighbors 2. The movie is about a company that used to delivered storks that has since become a major .com delivery giant, and the workers who decide to deliver a baby. The voice cast features Andy Samberg as the voice of Junior, as well as Kelsey Grammer, Jennifer Aniston, Ty Burrell, Key and Peele, plus Katie Crown as Tulip. This actually looks much better than expected, but I'm still not sure if it'll compare to Pixar of Disney. Have fun. Here's the second trailer for Nicholas Stoller & Doug Sweetland's Storks, direct from WB's YouTube: You can still see the first teaser trailer for WB's Storks here, »

Storks Trailer #3 Flies in with a Very Special Delivery

16 June 2016 7:53 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Animated adventures have been big at the box office over the past decade, but it's a genre usually dominated by Pixar, Disney and DreamWorks. Though Warner Bros. has also had its fare share of CG hits, the studio returns this fall with its most ambitious comedy yet! Storks is in theaters this September. Today, we have the third exciting trailer along with the official one-sheet poster, which asks you to 'Find your flock!'

Storks arrives in 3D and 2D in select theaters on September 23. Nicholas Stoller, best known for such raunchy comedies as Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek, Neighbors and this summer's Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, takes his first stab at making a family movie everyone can enjoy. He directs alongside Doug Sweetland. The duo are working from a script Nicholas Stoller wrote himself. Stoller is also producing alongside Brad Lewis. Executive Producers include 21 Jump Street directing duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who are joined by Glenn Ficarra, John Requa and Jared Stern.

Leading the ensemble voice cast are Andy Samberg and Kelsey Grammer. They are joined by a vast array of talent from the world of film and television including Katie Crown, Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele, Danny Trejo, and Ty Burrell. Iconic actress Jennifer Aniston finally makes a return to the animated world with her first voice role since taking on the 1999 classic Iron Giant. There will also be a few surprises to discover along the way.

Storks imagines what happened to the folklore of yesteryear in an age when social media allows everyone in the delivery room. These once proud birds used to deliver babies. Now, they deliver packages for a global internet retail giant. Junior, the company's top delivery stork, is about to be promoted when he accidentally activates the Baby Making Machine, producing an adorable and wholly unauthorized baby girl.

Desperate to deliver this bundle of trouble before the boss gets wise, Junior and his friend Tulip, the only human on Stork Mountain, race to make their first-ever baby drop, in a wild and revealing journey that could make more than one family whole and restore the storks' true mission in the world.&#160Along with the new trailer and poster, Warner Bros. is also introducing a few new treats for fans to get excited about the movie.

The studio has officially launched the Storks company site, which takes audiences inside Stork mountain. Now you can get an inside look at the inner workings of the Cornerstor at www.InsideStorkMountain.com. There is also the exciting Stork Delivery Dash game. Wondering if you have what it takes to soar to the top of Stork Mountain? Storks Delivery Dash lets you join the exciting world of winged delivery service. Fly through the neighborhood and deliver packages by air with flawless timing and stork-like precision. And remember to watch out for obstacles! Cornerstone relies on dependability! But before you get all wrapped up in that fun, be sure to check out the new poster and trailer, which promises to be a lot of fun on its own! In theaters only this fall.

Ninja Turtles 2 Wins the Weekend Box Office with $35.2M

5 June 2016 10:00 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

After winning at the box office with $65.3 million over the three-day weekend and $80 million over the four-day holiday, 20th Century Fox's X-Men: Apocalypse wasn't expected to win two weeks in a row. Three newcomers hit theaters this summer weekend, with Paramount's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, Warner Bros.' Me Before You and Universal's Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping arriving in wide release. As expected, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows came out on top, but it was still much lower than projected, winning with an estimated $35.2 million.

Box Office Mojo reports that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows had the widest debut this weekend, opening in 4,071 theaters, although that count still came in under the 4,153 theater roll-out of X-Men: Apocalypse, which dropped to second place with $22.3 million, a 66.1% drop from its debut. Me Before You took third place with $18.5 million, opening in 2,704 theaters, »

Another Memorial Day weekend has come and gone, as 20th Century Fox's X-Men: Apocalypse pulls away with an easy win at the box office. The superhero sequel took in $65.3 million over the three-day weekend and $80 million over the four-day holiday. This superhero adventure's reign at the top may be over quickly, though, with three newcomers hitting theaters this Friday, including Paramount's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, Warner Bros.' Me Before You and Universal's Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping arriving in wide release. If our projections are accurate, Ninja Turtles 2 should be the king of them all.

According to Box Office Mojo, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows will easily have the widest release this weekend, opening in an estimated 3,800 theaters. Me Before You is slated to open in more than 2,500 theaters, while Popstar is set to open in approximately 2,200 theaters. Me Before You currently »
