Hilary Duff was first offered the part of Annie Wilson, but declined the role. Shenae Grimes-Beech was then cast as Annie.
Jessica Lowndes was originally contracted for a maximum of four episodes only and wound up being on every episode but one.
Original cast-member Dustin Milligan was dropped from the show by the producers after season 1 and was not asked to return for season 2.
Jessica Stroup originally auditioned for the role of Annie.
Cast-members from the original Beverly Hills, 90210 (1990) to appear on this follow-up: Jennie Garth, Shannen Doherty, Tori Spelling, Ann Gillespie, and Joe E. Tata. Jason Priestley directed an episode.

Teddy Montgomery is played by a 32 year old, which is about 14 years older than his character. This was also done on the original show with Luke Perry at age 28 playing a high school junior.
AnnaLynne McCord admitted that she was initially reluctant to take the role of Naomi.
In an earlier episode Naomi shows up to school in sweats and UGG boots while Annie says UGG boots were so 2006. In the same season a few episodes later, Annie is seen sitting on her couch at home wearing gold UGG boots.

The producers claimed that when they saw Shenae Grimes-Beech' auditioning tape, they immediately knew she would be perfect for the role of Annie.
When asked to describe his character, Tristan Wilds called Dixon Wilson a mixture of Ferris Bueller, the Fresh Prince, and Zack Morris.
Tristan Wilds was the last original main character cast. When he came in, the cast and crew were already busy shooting promos.

AnnaLynne McCord's character Naomi had her boyfriend cheat on her after prom in the second season. AnnaLynne also had a brief role on The O.C. (2003) as a prom goer who is caught with Marissa's boyfriend cheating on her.
The first season focused on paying tribute to the original series, however, after the first season barely got picked up for another season, the show got new producers who changed the entire direction of the show and lots of elements of the original series were dropped.

At the end of Season 3, Annie was planning on attending Carnegie Mellon University, Liam was going to go to Drexel University and they were going to live together. While both schools are in Pennsylvania, Drexel is in Philadelphia and Carnegie Mellon is in Pittsburgh which is roughly a five hour drive.
