"If you poke someone with a pencil, is that an accident?"
All the kids get one special day per year to do something special with their parents all by themselves. Its Cara's turn, and she picks to roller blade at a local rink with her mom and dad. Kate can't skate so she will watch. All the other kids go to Aunt Jodi's for her to babysit.
Mady is being her usual jealous self because someone is getting attention and not her. They realize she has issues. There is a discussion before they leave when Mady asks "Do accidents count as a serious offense, if someone tripped?" Kate says if its a true accident, no - but that you can't blame everything on accidents." Then Mady asks "What if I take out a pencil and poke someone, on accident - that would be an accident wouldn't it?" Kate just laughs in the interview chair and says she thinks Mady had gotten away with a lot of things and called them accidents - because they are so busy and distracted with all the kids.
Jon and Kate buy roller blades for Cara. She is more sports oriented than Mady. Mady hates sport and the outdoors. Cara does soccer, snowboarding, roller-blading, scooter, riding bikes - Jon says she takes after him in being athletic.
Back at Aunt Jodi's, it is early spring and nice enough to place outside. They play with sidewalk chalk and go for a walk in the neighborhood. She is doing her best to tire the kids out.
They get to the skating rink and have the whole place to themselves. Jon is quick to get on the floor and show off his skills. Kate doesn't want to try to skate. She doesn't know how and is afraid she could get hurt - and that's not an option with 8 kids to care for. She says her days of "risky behavior are over!" Cara wears knee and elbow pads, wrist guards, and a helmet. The place is so quiet with no one else there, and there is no music. Seemed a little boring to me. I'm not sure why when it is just the 1 child, they would have to have the place to themselves. It would have been more fun for Cara if there had been other kids there and music playing. Again, not sure if they do this for security, or for production reasons.
Cara was the first born of all the kids. So she was their very first baby. She was born with a strawberry on the side of her nose. They told her it was an angel kiss. It disappeared on its own. They say she is a very kind, sweet and gentle child. She is very nurturing of the little kids - and she is very creative. She holds her emotions in - but when it overwhelms her, she explodes. She has a great time skating at the rink - and then it is time to pick up the kids from Aunt Jodi.
As soon as Jon and Kate see Aunt Jodi's face, they know she has had a rough time with the kids - that's an understatement. Collin broke Aaden's broke his glasses and the kids knocked a hole in the wall.
It is nice to see Cara featured in her own episode, as Mady gets so much attention with her bad behavior in many episodes. Cara is such a sweet child. It was great to see her have time alone with her parents!
