New Release: Boy Toy DVD

Release Date: Nov. 1, 2011

Price: DVD $26.98

Studio: Lionsgate

Mircea Monroe (l.) and Dawn Olivieri limber up in Boy Toy.

The sexy 2011 independent comedy Boy Toy stars John White (Wild Cherry) as Jake, an unsuccessful — but well-endowed! — underwear model in Los Angeles who finds a lucrative new line of work as a platonic escort for women of a certain age.

Just as Jake finds himself a deep-pocketed “sugar mama” in the form of Barbra (Morgan Fairchild, The Seduction), he meets Norah (Mircea Monroe, The 41-Year-Old Virgin…), a sweet and stunning yoga instructor. And so, as Jake’s success blooms, so does his love life, leading him to the kind of personal and professional moment of truth — or possible truth — that one often stumbles upon in Southern California.

Hmmmm… if we removed the word “platonic” from Jake’s job description, it would sound like the film is tackling the kind of material that

Wild Cherry DVD Review

When a film’s most publicized feature is the fact that it stars Kristin Cavallari (who?) then something must be up. In case you don’t know she is one of the hot blonde girls from Laguna Beach and The Hills, those much praised reality-drama staged-real life shows on MTV. The fact that she is billed above actual actors (if you can call them that) such as Malcolm in the Middle and Lost’s Tania Raymonde, Tia Carrere and (heaven help us) Rob Schneider says a lot about how those involved feel about the film and suggests that its audience is ultimately limited.

Selling itself as an American Pie for the girls, Wild Cherry appears to know what it wants to be. That is until the characters begin to speak, a point to which I shall return. There was a brief vogue for gross out teen comedies around the start

Rumer Refused Help From Parents

Rumer Refused Help From Parents
Hollywood newcomer Rumer Willis refused to take any favours from her famous parents, so she could make it as an actress in her own right.

The daughter of divorced Hollywood power couple Bruce Willis and Demi Moore was determined to carve out her own career, without being accused of benefitting from her parents' connections.

And Willis is starting to make her own mark on the industry; she recently landed roles in The House Bunny and forthcoming film Wild Cherry.

Dad Bruce says, "She sat us down and said, 'I know you two think you're big shots, but I don't want any help'. And she went off and got work on her own."

Although she has now refused help from her famous parents, Willis' Hollywood career was kickstarted by appearances in their films. She starred alongside Moore in 1996 movie Striptease, and twice with father Bruce in 2000's The Whole Nine Yards and Hostage in 2005.

'5th Quarter' tackles real-life football drama
A college football player's tribute to his late brother inspired his team to a record season, and the poignant true story is now headed for the big screen.

Ryan Merriman, Aidan Quinn and Andie MacDowell will play the Abbate family in Rick Bieber's indie drama "The 5th Quarter."

After the family's devastation after 15-year-old Luke Abbate's death in a 2006 car crash and their painful decision to donate his organs to five people, Wake Forest junior Jon Abbate (Merriman) asked his coach to change his jersey number to Luke's number, five. Just before the fourth quarter of each game, the linebacker began holding up five fingers along with his parents, Steven and Maryanne (Quinn and, in final negotiations, MacDowell) as they sat in section five of the stadium.

After news of the personal tribute spread, even opposing players and fans were joining them by the thousands, inspiring the family to
