J.J. Abrams' 'Undercovers' spies Boris Kodjoe

NBC has found the male lead for its J.J. Abrams pilot "Undercovers" in the form of former "Soul Food" star Boris Kodjoe.

Kodjoe, who starred in the Bruce Willis movie "Surrogates" earlier this year, will play one half of a married couple who work together as spies, according to The Hollywood Reporter. If the show gets picked up, he would become one of only a handful of African-American actors with a lead role on a network series.

The "Undercovers" cast also includes Gerald McRaney, who was cast earlier in the week as the couple's supervisor at the CIA.

Kodjoe played Damon Carter on Showtime's "Soul Food" and also starred in the Upn series "Second Time Around" (with his real-life wife, Nicole Ari Parker). His credits also include "Madea's Family Reunion," "Love & Basketball" and the upcoming "Resident Evil: Afterlife."

Abrams co-wrote "Undercovers" with Josh Reims and may direct the pilot.

'Soul Food' star joins Abrams' 'Undercovers'

17 December 2009 2:00 PM, PST | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Boris Kodjoe has landed the male lead in J.J. Abrams' pilot for NBC "Undercovers."

"Undercovers," described as a mix between "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" and "The Bourne Identity," revolves around spouses Samantha and Steven (Kodjoe) Bloom, who work together as spies.

Earlier this week, veteran Gerald McRaney became the first actor tapped for the project as the couple's CIA boss. The role of Samantha is yet to be cast.

Abrams is considering directing the Warner Bros. TV-produced pilot, which he co-wrote with Josh Reims.

Kodjoe is a bold choice for a leading man on a network drama as broadcasters have stuck predominantly with Caucasian leads.

Kodjoe, repped by Gersh, is probably best known for his starring role on the series "Soul Food." He will next be seen in "Resident Evil: Afterlife." »

Actually, Resident Evil: Afterlife Will be Pushed Back

9 December 2009 8:15 PM, PST | HugAZombie | See recent HugAZombie news »

So Resident Evil: Afterlife isn't moving, eh Milla Jovovich?

Scratch that. It's official.

Jovovich has reversed her claim that the Afterlife push wasn't official and announced the schedule change on her Twitter account.

Re Afterlife will most likely b released jan '11.

yes, new Re film coming in jan> 2011!

ShockTillYouDrop confirmed the change, having received Sony Screen Gems updated release schedule, so instead of its original August 27, 2010 release date, Resident Evil: Afterlife's will now open on January 14, 2011, which means that the 3-D sequel will open next to another horror 3-D movie, the Joss Whedon scripted Cabin in the Woods. That's a lot of 3-D glasses for horror fans in a single weekend, so don't expect this duo to stay on the same weekend. »

Resident Evil: Afterlife Will Open in 2011 After All

Days ago, Milla Jovovich told fans via her Twitter account that Resident Evil: Afterlife's rumored move from its August 27, 2010 release date to January 14, 2011, was "not official" but, apparently, that has changed. Jovovich announced to the Twitterverse that Afterlife is indeed moving.

Re Afterlife will most likely b released jan '11.

yes, new Re film coming in jan> 2011!

Several websites have received an updated release schedule from Sony Screen Gems, Afterlife's distributor, confirming the release date of January 14, 2011. The move will pit Afterlife against fellow 3-D movie Cabin in the Woods, which will also be targeted for horror fans.

Taking Afterlife's place on August 27 will be Priest, the comic book adaptation starring Paul Bettany.

Fincher's 'The Social Network' Opening October 15

9 December 2009 5:12 AM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

Yesterday, we updated a story from earlier yesterday about Resident Evil: Afterlife. It was strongly rumored that the movie was having production issues stemming from the incorpororation of 3-D and would be pushed into 2011 from August 2010. Milla Jovovich Tweeted that it hadn't happened, but then it did. And that was our update: Afterlife is now January 14, 2011.

There was more news from Sony yesterday, too, as the studio announced a release date for The Social Network. Coming Soon reports that October 15, 2010 is the perfect time to find out more about the history of Facebook. The film is an odd mix: Facebook + screenwriter Aaron Sorkin + director David Fincher + Zombieland's Jesse Eisenberg + Justin Timberlake.

The movie is currently in production (it got underway in October), and under normal circumstances, I'd say that's plenty of time. Besides, studios always unveil their annual schedule so that, well, so that they can have a schedule. »

Screen Gems Shifts Dates for 'Resident Evil: Afterlife' and 'Priest'

8 December 2009 8:18 AM, PST | bloody-disgusting.com | See recent Bloody-Disgusting.com news »

Here's proof that stars don't know what the heck they're talking about (no offense Milla), but Milla Jovovich was pretty adamant about the fact that Sony Screen Gems' date change for Resident Evil: Afterlife wasn't set in stone. Well it was. Screen Gems is moving the Paul W.S. Anderson directed 3-D sequel from its August, 2010 date all the way to January 14, 2011 (boo!). The reason for the shift is to allow more time to complete the zombie flick in post-production. In addition, Screen Gems moved Priest from its October 2010 slot up to August 27, 2010 - just before dump month. Does this mean we should be scared? Click either title above for more info on each. »

Resident Evil: Afterlife May Not Happen Until 2011

Looks like Resident Evil: Afterlife's August 27, 2010 release date may be in jeopardy.

Reports began circulating yesterday that the sequel would be pushed back to a January 14, 2011 release date to allow director Paul W.S. Anderson enough time complete the complicated 3-D post-production process. Milla Jovovich updated fans on her Twitter account, saying that the move was not official.

Re Afterlife Is Not officially pushed. There have been talks of pushing it as they r not sure they can have it ready by july.

We r trying as hard as we can to still meet the summer deadline though, so for the moment its still on for Aug.

Should the move happen, Resident Evil: Afterlife would share the release date with Joss Whedon's Cabin in the Woods, which has also been delayed so that it could be released in 3-D. While more theaters will likely have 3-D capability by early »

Resident Evil: Afterlife On The Move?

3D might be slowly overcoming its gimmicky status in cinema (though we're still not 100% convinced), but it seems to be leading to another issue - lengthy post-production periods delaying movies. The latest apparent victim? Resident Evil: Afterlife.Yes, with Paul Ws Anderson shooting the latest Resident Evil franchise outing in 3D, Sony is now likely to delay the film's release from the planned August 2010 Us date to give the director and his post-production team more time to finish the thing.Ironically, the rumoured move to January 2011 would put it into direct competition with Joss Whedon's horror Cabin In The Woods, which itself was delayed so 3D tweaks could be applied.Star Milla Jovovich, however, immediately jumped onto Twitter to downplay the likelihood of the move: "Re Afterlife Is Not officially pushed. There have been talks of pushing it as they are not sure they can have it ready by July. »

He said: "I think at this point everyone's just focused on getting the right script and the right tone and the right writer involved and I think from there, the world's your oyster. If you get that right, you're going to get an amazing director.

Although they've already finished shooting the entire movie, Sony is delaying the release of Resident Evil: Afterlife because they're not sure they'll have enough time to finish all the 3D work. Look what 3D is doing to our movies! Styd reports that the original August 27th, 2010 release date for Resident Evil: Afterlife, which was the same date originally announced, has been filled by the manga-adapted movie Priest instead.
